Chevrolet Trailblazer SS

The Chevrolet Trailblazer SS was a high-performance variant of the first-generation Chevrolet Trailblazer. It was introduced for the 2006 model year, and remained available until the first-gen Trailblazer was discontinued following the 2009 model year.

As the first production-spec, body-on-frame SUV to sport the SS moniker, the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS was most notable for featuring the naturally aspirated 6.0L V8 LS2 gasoline engine that was found in the early model years of the C6 Corvette models. Rated at 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, the LS2 found in the Trailblazer SS was equipped with a more restrictive exhaust and taller intake manifold to produce more torque for the heavier SUV body.

The suspension was stiffened and lowered from the factory, and included an air-leveling system in the rear. With wider tires and the aforementioned suspension upgrades, the Trailblazer SS offered much improved handling characteristics over “regular” Trailblazer models.

Additional features included 4.10 differentials for improved off-the-line acceleration, and the choice of either a RWD or AWD drivetrain. Nearly 27,000 units of the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS were produced over the lifetime of the model.
