GM To Launch OnStar In Brazil In Late 2015

General Motors has announced plans to launch its OnStar telematics service in Brazil later this year.

The Emergency, Security, Navigation, Diagnostics and Connectivity services will first become available on the (first-generation) Chevrolet Cruze four-door sedan and five-door hatchback.

“OnStar offers Cruze owners a new level of connectivity, safety and property security in the Brazilian automotive market,” said Santiago Chamorro, president of GM do Brasil. “OnStar technology, combined with the updated look and feel of the redesigned Cruze, brings to life what Finding New Roads is all about in Brazil.”

OnStar services include:

  • Security: helps recover stolen vehicles
  • Emergency: Automatic Crash Response and 24/7 access to advisors to get help when it’s needed most
  • Connectivity: smartphone app that enables remote functions including vehicle locate, door lock/unlock, honking the horn and flashing the lights
  • Navigation: provides routes remotely to the vehicle infotainment system

GM says that services will be customized according to the preferences of the market, and that full details of OnStar functionality in Brazil will be announced in the near future. As is the case in other markets where OnStar services are available, OnStar will offer 24-hour assistance from live advisors available with a press of the OnStar button located on the rear-view mirror or through a mobile app.
