General Motors has announced that its GM Defense subsidiary recently hosted leaders from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society at its Manufacturing and Customer Innovation Center (MCIC) in North Carolina.
During the event, leaders of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society – which included four Medal of Honor Recipients – participated in a flag raising ceremony, and toured the MCIC and GM’s Charlotte Technical Center. Leaders were also able to experience the Corvette C8 Stingray and GMC Hummer EV firsthand.
“We’re incredibly proud that four Medal of Honor Recipients, whose acts of valor and heroism spanned from the Vietnam War to the Global War on Terror, raised the colors of our nation for the first time over our Concord, North Carolina, facility,” GM Defense President Steve duMont noted in a prepared statement. “We’re humbled by the presence of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and by the courage and sacrifice of the four Recipients of our nation’s highest military award for valor. Their participation at our MCIC event is a source of great inspiration for our team, as we work every day to provide the best capability for the brave men and women in uniform who protect our freedom.”
GM Defense highlighted its light tactical utility vehicle during the event, and offered test drives of the Army’s Infantry Squad Vehicle, which is based on the Colorado ZR2, and of the U.S. Government’s first ever OEM-integrated Heavy-Duty Sport Utility Vehicle.
“As President of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, it is an honor to visit GM Defense and witness firsthand their commitment to supporting the men and women who serve our nation,” Medal of Honor Recipient and CMOHS Board of Directors President Britt Slabinski remarked. “Seeing the cutting-edge technology and innovation being developed here to enhance the safety and effectiveness of our military is truly inspiring. We deeply appreciate GM Defense’s ongoing support of the Society’s mission to honor and preserve the legacy of those who have received the Medal of Honor and of all who wear the uniform.”
It’s worth noting that GM Defense teammate Hendrick Motorsports hosted the group for lunch and held a tour of its Heritage Center.
