Rare 2011 Saab 9-4X Up For Auction In North Carolina

The Saab 9-4X is an oddity from recent GM history. There’s nothing all that special about the car itself, but because of inopportune timing, it unintentionally became a rare collectible. Now, there’s one up for auction in North Carolina on Cars & Bids for Saab enthusiasts’ consideration.

The Saab 9-4X is a midsize crossover that came out for the 2011 model year. It shared the Theta Premium platform with the second-generation Cadillac SRX. However, since Saab went bankrupt less than a year after production began, it was limited to 814 units.

The Saab 9-4X had the same engine options as the SRX at the time: the 3.0L V6 LF1 and turbocharged 2.8L V6 LAU. This one packs the more common LF1 engine, which is rated at 265 horsepower and 223 pound-feet of torque. Output is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Options include the Technology Package (parking sensors and bi-xenon cornering lights), navigation, a panoramic moonroof, and a compact spare tire. It all brings the sticker price to $43,520, which is about $62k in 2024 dollars.

Modifications to this Saab include a set of 18-inch wheels sourced from a Cadillac XT5, Saab fog lights and roof bars, tinted windows, aftermarket mud flaps, and LED interior lights. Two sets of Saab wheels are included in the sale. A thorough service history is provided, which should give the next owner some peace of mind.

Although it had a lot in common mechanically with the more mainstream Cadillac SRX, the Saab 9-4X had just enough quirks to make it a little different. It has a more Scandanavian-inspired exterior design with unique lighting, green needles in the gauges, and an engine start/stop button located by the shifter where the Saab ignition traditionally goes.

The auction ends on Tuesday, December 3rd. As of this writing, there are seven bids on the auction, and the high bid is $4,200. Although this is a super rare car from an obscure brand, this quirky GM crossover still isn’t worth all that much. With the exception of an even-rarer Aero model, every other 9-4X that’s been sold on Cars & Bids has gone for under $10,000. It will be interesting to see whether this auction sees an uptick in value for the Saab 9-4X.
