GM Looking To Attract Software Students Impacted By Tesla Internship Changes

As GM Authority has been closely following, General Motors rival Tesla has been implementing various layoffs as of recent, going so far as to state that it had plans for a 10-percent reduction in its workforce. That being said, the Detroit-based automaker appears to be looking to capitalize on those affected by the all-electric manufacturer’s dismissals.

According to a report from Business Insider, GM Talent Sourcing Strategist Laura del Amo recently invited software students to reach out to The General for potential opportunities following Tesla’s decision to cancel internship offers.

“In light of recent industry news, GM is extending an invite to software students who may have been impacted from the changes in Tesla’s upcoming summer internship cohort,” Laura del Amo stated. “We believe in the strength of our automotive community and are keen to integrate diverse talents into our team. If you are now looking for a new internship opportunity, let’s connect.”

“We’re always looking to source new talent, especially in areas like engineering, software development, and electrification and welcome applicants to our popular intern programs,” another GM spokesperson remarked.

Of course, General Motors has a notable history of picking up former Tesla personnel. Just last February, the Detroit-based automaker announced that it had appointed former Tesla Executive Kurt Kelty as the GM Vice President of Batteries, a newly created position. Having worked in battery development at Tesla for 11 years, Kelty reports directly to GM President Mark Reuss and supports The General in its transition to an all-electric future.

“For more than 30 years, I’ve been focused on helping develop and commercialize battery technologies that will aid in the transition to electric transportation,” Kelty explained. “Joining GM creates an even bigger opportunity to help the industry make the switch and have a lasting impact on our planet.”
