Look, we get it. This new EV thing is a bit weird. For the last 140 years or so, the vast majority of personal transportation has been handled via internal combustion engines. Now, word on the street is that in just a few decades, all those ICE-based vehicles will need to be replaced by a battery-powered alternative. The end result? You get meme posts like this Chevy truck chased by a Tesla cop car.
Recently hitting the web via the hugely appropriate “Dad Best Joke” Facebook group, the meme shows what appears to be an old C10 Chevy truck with a Tesla Model S cop car in hot pursuit. The C10 shows off a set of wide rear tires, suggesting it’s been modified for performance, while the Tesla is only feet off the tailgate, emergency lights flashing.
“Me in 2050 patiently waiting for the electric cop car’s battery to die,” the meme text reads.
While we get the intention behind the meme, there are a few things we should point out. First off, the use of an older Tesla Model S doesn’t really make sense for the year 2050. Plus, if the current advances in battery technology continue on their current trajectory, it’s likely any EV in 2050 will have a ridiculously high range, likely exceeding that of an ICE-powered model by a considerable margin. Then, of course, there’s the cost of gasoline in 2050, which is also quite likely to be outrageously expensive in 25-years’ time.
There’s more we can point out as well. EV performance is pretty insane already, and we can only guess where it’ll be when the next several generations of EV models roll out. In all likelihood, an old Chevy truck, even one that’s been modified, wouldn’t stand a chance. We also would have preferred to see a Chevy Blazer EV PPV chasing down the C10, rather than an old Tesla.
That all said, the sentiment behind the meme is clear. Some folks just prefer their ICE-powered vehicle over a new EV.
What’s your take? Does this meme speak to you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Bu//$@@@ article. Can they stop shoving this EV junk down our throats?
We all know EV enthusiast failed at math and physics, but electric motors efficiency drops significantly with load, ice gets more efficient at WOT. A half full gas tank would beat a 300KWH battery at these speeds.
Grade A 🐒 spooge.
You say “the EV thing is weird,” and claim to get it. But you’re firmly in EVs’ corner with every article you’ve ever written about it that I’ve read. You buy into the questionable political and environmental aspects promoting it, and it’s clear by the way this is written, you’d support a future where an ICE is illegal, and people could be punished for it.
There aren’t words in the English language to describe how ill this mindset makes me. EVs are bad enough as it is. I will be the truck guy in this photo if it has to be that way. I’m not going to be forced. That’s what really matters.
GMAuthority seriously posted a point- by- point dissection of a meme as if a meme is ultimately supposed to be anything more than a humorous, often exaggerated for comedic effect, take on a given subject.
You claim to “get” the sentiment behind the meme, yet you still bothered to do a “Well, ackshually…” takedown of it and expect to be taken seriously on other subjects? I’m filing the name “Jonathan Lopez” under “humorless scold” in my metal rolodex and making a note to discount anything else he ever has to say on automotive subjects.
I realize that we’re getting what we pay for around here, but please try a little harder.
Yeah …Greta “analyzing” a joke .
A psychologist would tell you this only proves how insecure and defensive they are about their snowflake evs .
I get that you guys are running out of things to post about but did you really have to dissect an AI-generated boomer humor meme you stumbled upon on FB
BTW – if and when EV’s start selling in larger numbers, I would expect the overcapacity of gasoline production will drive incredibly attractive $/gal :))))
Most anti EV posts are just stupid. It is amazing how upset you get over an article like this. I for one love both my ICE vehicles including my C8 Z06 and own EV’s as well. Change is inevitable, accept it or become extinct.
Tesla Police Car?? Might as well have a Yugo.
Gas wouldn’t be ridiculously expensive in 2050 unless there is an agenda to tax ICE owners into submission to the almighty EV.
As EV’s grow in popularity (which as the cost comes down they will) the demand for Gasoline would drop increasing available supply making it less valuable.
Not every decision to stick with ICE is based on range. That is part of it but not all of it. Cost to purchase, cost of repair, ability to do repairs myself, cold weather performance (I see -40 degrees every winter), towing range, charging infrastructure on scenic routes. Off grid camping doesn’t follow the main highways where there are a few charging stations.
All of these play a factor in decisions.
Also ignoring the hydrogen ICE and mandating EV’s shows an agenda that isn’t just environmental. The total impact to global earth health including air, water, soil pollution show hydrogen ICE could be significantly better than EV’s
Jonathan Lopez, thank you for the fun diversion from the norm…
I would guess that the cops will do it in 2050 like they do it today. Just call another cop down the road to set up a road block. Even a 40 year old Tesla with worn out batteries could set up a road block.
Easy to find the perpetrator driving a 90 year old pickup truck making a lot of noise; and a lot of exhaust smell, can’t miss him.
Can’t miss the teslas I pass every night on my commute home, going 10 MPH below the flow of traffic, nervously trying to make it to the next supercharger.

Are you looking into the same crystal ball that said we should all be driving flying cars by now?
The same one that said we’d all be driving 500 mile range EVs that neve break and cost 50% less than dinosaur ICEs by now.
The only way to get there is printing money and employing slace labor like China.
No thanks for EV. Waiting for Hydrogen. All the mining and products used in making batteries then what to do with the old ones! As batteries change, when you need a replacement they not make your batteries.
I wish GM would put more time and money developing Hydrogen.
Gym had its first hydrogen powered Buick in 1974 . Chicago has hydrogen busses in 1999 . That route has been continually derailed for decades , it will continue to be .
Kinda like there were EVs 100 years ago. And they had the same issues they do today: too heavy, not enough range, too expensive to produce, inconvenient.
Y’all that hate on the Tesla should really be more concerned about trying to get away from the new Charger. That’s what LE will be driving soon. EVs are getting better every year and are fast as hell already. I am not hating on either technology, they both have there place. Share the road brothers and just drive on. No matter your choice, enjoy it for all its worth.
Except one comes from immorally bankrupt China.
