GM’s Upcoming Wuling Xing Chen Plus PHEV Revealed

General Motors’ SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture in China has just officially revealed the upcoming Wuling Xing Chen Plus PHEV in the Asian country.

The automaker revealed the first official images of the upcoming Wuling Xing Chen Plus PHEV, an all-new electrified compact crossover that will join the extensive New Energy Vehicle (NEV) portfolio of GM’s best-selling brand in China. The Xing Chen Plus PHEV will be the first variant of this new model in the Chinese market, and will launch later this year.

Although it shares its name with the regular gasoline-powered Wuling Xing Chen crossover, the upcoming Wuling Xing Chen Plus PHEV is a different model and developed from the ground up on the D platform of SGMW’s new Tianyu EV modular architecture – a next-generation structural base that will provide a total of three platforms called S, M and D. The D platform is the most advanced of the set for medium- to large-sized vehicles.

Aesthetically, the upcoming Wuling Xing Chen Plus PHEV features a stylized body with organic shapes introducing a new evolution of the design language for Wuling’s latest vehicles. The front fascia stands out with a new two-tier lighting signature, the rising waistline outlined by chrome trim and well-defined hips that shape the voluminous rear section.

The Wuling Xing Chen Plus PHEV’s powertrain is composed of a 78 kW or 106-horsepower 1.5L LBG auxiliary engine and a 150 kW or 201-horsepower electric drive motor, fed by a lithium iron phosphate battery pack. Meanwhile, the Xing Chen Plus PHEV’s body measures 185.2 inches long, 73.6 inches wide and 65.7 inches over a 110.2-inch wheelbase – identical to that of the all-new Wuling Starlight sedan.

The upcoming Wuling Xing Chen Plus PHEV will officially launch in the Chinese market during the second half of this year, when it is scheduled to begin arriving at the Wuling dealer network. In addition to this first plug-in hybrid variant, the Wuling Xing Chen Plus will also be offered with a fully electric powertrain configuration to be announced later in China.
