The GM São José dos Campos plant has just completed its first 65 years of operations and the automobile manufacturer is celebrating by summarizing the achievements of the industrial complex in the state of Sao Paulo, one of the largest in Brazil. Since it opened for business, the São José dos Campos factory has produced more than six million vehicles.

“Since our arrival in Vale do Paraíba, we have contributed to the economic growth of the region, and now we celebrate the success story of one of the largest industrial complexes in the country,” said Executive Director of Manufacturing at GM South America, Ricardo Fanucchi. “In the last 65 years, the São José dos Campos plant has produced more than 6 million vehicles and 30 million engines and transmissions,” he added.

Inaugurated on March 10th, 1959, the GM São José dos Campos plant covers an area of 29 million square feet of land and 5.4 million square feet of built area that includes a total of six factories concentrating production of the Chevy S10 and its body-on-frame Chevy TrailBlazer SUV derivative, as well as four-cylinder engines, transmissions and other components. This makes it one of the largest production facilities in the entire Brazilian automotive industry.

Notably, the GM São José dos Campos plant is characterized by being the factory in charge of manufacturing the Chevy S10 midsize pickup for more than 28 years, supplying the domestic market of Brazil and exporting it to the other South American countries where the truck is sold. In fact, the Brazilian complex is currently the only manufacturing center for the S10 and the Chevy TrailBlazer SUV in the entire world.

The GM São José dos Campos plant is getting ready for the imminent start of production of the updated 2025 Chevy S10, which will be officially launched next month in Brazil, sources familiar with the matter have told GM Authority. In addition to the new version of the midsize pickup and its powertrain components, the unit will also manufacture the updated 2025 Chevy TrailBlazer SUV to supply the Brazilian market and other countries in the region.
