Astronaut Alan Shepard’s 1995 Chevy Camaro Z28 Convertible Up For Sale

United States astronauts have a long history with General Motors products, particularly that of the Chevy Corvette. However, that’s not to say that some space rangers have a taste for other GM vehicles, as is evidenced in Alan Shepard’s 1995 Chevy Camaro Z28 Convertible. Now, that very Camaro has been posted for sale online.

Listed for sale in Texas, this 1995 Camaro boasts quite the intriguing backstory. In fact, Alan Shepard was actually the first U.S. astronaut to travel to space, as well as the fifth and oldest person to walk on the moon. As such, this Z28 Convertible is truly one-of-a-kind on virtue of its previous ownership.

In regard to the muscle car specifically, this 1995 Z28 is finished in a blue exterior color, which is complimented by a beige convertible top and interior colorway. Alloy wheels serve as the rollers.

With no lack of amenities, this Camaro features power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, power mirrors, tilt steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, fog lamps, performance axle, keyless entry, remote trunk release, leather wrapped steering wheel, front bucket seats, folding rear seat and color-keyed carpet mats.

Under the hood lies the naturally aspirated 5.7L V8 LT1 gasoline engine, rated at 275 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque (not to be mistaken for the Generation V Chevy Small Block LT1). Output is routed to the rear wheels via the GM 4L60E automatic transmission.

According to the ad, all of the scheduled maintenance is up to date, and includes fresh Falken tires, battery and brakes.

With just 68,000 miles on the odometer, this 1995 Chevy Camaro Z28 Convertible is certainly in great shape. However, due to the fact that Alan Shepard was the original owner, the current seller has the muscle car listed for $250,000. What do you think, dear reader? Is this a price worthy for a Camaro like this? Vote in the poll below, and let us know your thoughts in the comment section!

  1. Are you kidding me???? That photo is of Buzz Aldrin during the Apollo 11 EVA. How can you justify claiming this is Alan Shepard by photoshopping in a golf club and ball??

    1. Buzz was never an avid golfer. Mr. Shepard was and got special permission to have a golf club head fabricated that fitted to one of the sample collection tool shafts an a golf ball added to the equipment list as every fraction of an ounce was being tracked.

    2. You may be right about the image. It does look suspiciously like a rather famous one of Buzz standing with the US flag. I doen’t think I ever saw a nice still image of Mr.Shepard posing with the club assembly.

      1. A car owned by a *former* astronaut, decades after retirement, is not the same as an astronaut era Corvette. That uniqueness maybe added 50% to the value of the C2 ‘Vettes that have traded recently. It’s a 15% – MAX – adder to a Gen 4 Camaro. $15k car. A *nice* car, but a $15k car. Notice the advertisement…80% is about its astronaut ownership and other astronaut cars – not this car.

  5. I’m more of a second gen Camaro guy but this is very nice for a 1995. I would give every bit of 15k and maybe go as high as 17k if the paint is truly as good as it looks from 10 feet away.

  6. As we know, some people pay crazy prices for things and cars just because a well-known person was the owner at some point.

I would probably pay a maximum of 6 bucks for it, even if the Camaro is and has been very well maintained.

You just have to buy with your mind and brain!!!

  7. Very interesting car with a hole in the time line. Astronaut Shepard was 70 yrs. old when this was built. He only enjoyed it 5 years when we lost the American hero. Were has this car been for the last 25 years.
