Redesigned 2023 BMW M2 Debuts As Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing Rival

BMW just pulled the sheets on the all-new second-generation BMW M2, revealing a fresh performance-oriented rival for the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing.

Let’s jump straight into the go-fast stuff. The 2023 BMW M2 produces a maximum of 453 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 406 pound-feet of torque at 2,650 rpm thanks to the S58 TwinPower turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, boosted by two mono-scroll turbochargers. The ‘six feeds the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission as standard, while an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic is optional.

Properly motivated, the 2023 BMW M2 will sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds when equipped with the manual transmission, and 3.9 seconds with the automatic transmission. Top speed is limited at 155 mph, while the optional M Driver’s Package ups that figure to 177 mph.

Further performance highlights include a standard Active M Differential, unique chassis bracing, an M-specific aluminum front axle subframe, and standard Adaptive M Suspension with electronically controlled dampers. A set of M Compound brakes with six-piston calipers matched to 15-inch discs up front help to haul it down.

Outside, the 2023 BMW M2 features new styling, including an updated fascia design and twin kidney grille. Full LED headlights are standard, while an M Carbon roof is optional. Five exterior colors will be available, including Alpine White, Black Sapphire metallic, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Toronto Red Metallic, and Zandvoort Blue. Wheel diameter sizing is staggered at 19 inches in front and 20 inches in the rear.

In terms of dimensions, the 2023 BMW M2 is 4.1 inches longer, 1.3 inches wider, and 0.3 inches lower than the preceding model, with the wheelbase now extended 2.1 inches to 108.1 inches total.

As for onboard tech goodies, the new BMW M2 features M Drive Professional with Drift Analyzer and a 10-position traction control system as standard. The BMW Curved Display with iDrive 8 also includes a 5G data connection.

The 2023 BMW M2 is set for a global launch in April of next year. Pricing starts at $62,200, plus $995 destination and handling.

  2. CT4 BW beats this car all day long in looks and will do so in performance!

  3. These BMWs are not going to age gracefully. They don’t look good today and they will be even worse tomorrow and every day after that.

Their coupes used to be great. 335 was the ticket at one time.

    1. They seem to have gone for the big-gills look, emulating Toyota.

I am FAR from a BMW fan, having both owned one, and been in a family that sold BMW back when they were relatively unknown. However, I will give credit where it is due: if the designer of the 2800CS, or even the 2000CS could be resurrected and turned loose in the design department, BMW would have some of the best looking cars on the road.

Even with the somewhat clumsy adaptations done to fit the then-required sealed beam headlights, these cars were real beauties.

  4. Nice try from “schnitzel land,” but that isn’t going to cut it.

  5. IDK about the CT4, but I did witness this model beat a 5.0 2022 Mustang on the hiway from 55mph start. The 5.0 had on aftermarket exhaust. The 5.0 lagged the grunt and BMW kept a car’s length ahead the entire time until the 5.0 let go… They were going to go for race2 when I had to exit the hiway.

Curious what the BMW would do against the Camaro SS. The assumption to go after the CT4 BW instead the of the pony cars is a bit overconfident…

  6. What’s the weight?

Blacking is 472 hp 445 torque. At justvover 3800 lbs.

Bmw doesn’t sound like too much of a threat.

    Just saying

    1. This new M2 will be over 3800 lbs as well, but BMW’s HP rating is always conservative and their gearing is shorter. I’d give the M2 the edge, but it’s so close that it doesn’t really matter.
