GM’s Baojun To Launch Upcoming KiWi EV Mini Crossover

Baojun, the youngest General Motors brand in China managed by the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture, is preparing to launch an upcoming all-electric KiWi EV mini crossover in China.

During a recent marketing event for the facelifted 2023 Baojun KiWi EV minicar, SGMW released a teaser video teasing various aspects of the design and silhouette of a future small crossover from Baojun, which it dubbed the “City Fun Trendy Product.” However, on the heels of the official announcement, that upcoming Baojun model has just been leaked as an upcoming zero-emission KiWi EV crossover.

Chinese media has leaked the first image of an upcoming Baojun KiWi EV mini crossover that has all the design cues of the small off-roader teased by SGMW in the teaser video, revealing that the automaker is preparing to launch the industry’s first fully electric “kei car” utility vehicle. This model will expand the KiWi EV range and could turn it into a new family of small zero-emission vehicles.

The upcoming Baojun KiWi EV mini crossover features a diminutive two-door body and an off-road look that introduces a new brand design language, with a mix of retro and modern styling elements giving it a striking appearance. Although its configuration and exterior styling is very similar to that of the Suzuki Jimny, the upcoming KiWi EV crossover has a more streamlined design and will stand out as the first zero-emission off-roader in its class.

Aesthetically, the upcoming Baojun KiWi EV mini crossover features a robust two-tone body with a front end featuring a horizontal acrylic panel with rounded edges that integrates eight individual LED headlamps and the KiWi name illuminated in the center. The side profiles include straight lines, trapezoidal wheel arches and good-diameter wheels enhancing its elevated stance, while the flat rear boasts O-shaped headlights.

The upcoming Baojun KiWi EV mini crossover is expected to be officially revealed in the coming weeks and will make its world debut during the 2022 Guangzhou Auto Show in late November. Notably, SGMW will be looking to capitalize on its broad level of popularity and strong experience in the small electric vehicle category with the KiWi EV crossover, debuting a new category of small zero-emission off-roaders.

      1. well … use in my car E10, but VW, Ford, Toyota etc produces high technology 3 cylinders E85 flexi engines in Brazil, so still do not understand why Germany and USA do there, but do not bring the engine to Europe or USA… politicians say looking alternative energy blablabla… when Brasil has since decades that. and is affordable for 120 hp, gives a chance people of middle class like us

    3. In China, they blend 10% Methanol (1 carbon atom) with petrol/gasoline. I run my Prius with E50 here in USA, no issues. Dont expect automakers to launch Flexfuel, just use Ethanol/Methanol in higher %age if available.
