2022 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Edition Now Available With Multi-Flex Tailgate

The 2022 Chevy Silverado HD is the third model year for the fourth-generation nameplate, introducing a few small changes and updates over the preceding 2021 model year. Outdoor enthusiasts can upgrade their 2022 Chevy Silverado HD with the optional Carhartt Edition package, and now, GM Authority has learned that the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Edition package is also available in conjunction with the Chevy Multi-Flex tailgate.

Tagged with RPO code QK2, the Multi-Flex tailgate was previously incompatible with the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD Carhartt Edition. According to GM Authority sources, that has now changed.

The Carhartt Edition package for the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD is tagged with RPO code CSE, and is available for Silverado 2500HD LTZ Crew Cab 4WD trim levels. Pricing is set at $3,605. The package includes a long list of enhancements for both the exterior and interior, including a Mosaic Black Metallic grille bar, black badging, a black skid plate, painted mirror caps, exterior pinstriping, Carhartt interior trim and embroidered headrests, 20-inch machined aluminum wheels, and more.

The package requires the LTZ Plus Package (RPO code PDF, priced at $2,645), the LTZ Convenience Package II (RPO code PCN, priced at $1,670), the Safety Package II (RPO code PDJ, priced at $645), and the Z71 Off-Road Package (priced at $345), as well as Mosaic Black Metallic paint (paint code GB8).

Meanwhile, the Multi-Flex Tailgate is a $445 option.

As a reminder, the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD is offered with two engine options, including the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 464 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 445 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 910 pound-feet of torque at 1,600 rpm. Under the skin, the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD rides on a more capable version of the GM T1 platform, while production takes place at at the GM Flint plant in Michigan and GM Oshawa plant in Canada.

If you live in the Southwest or desert Intermountain West the last color you need is black. However if you live in the rust belt, that’s another story.

Black is a potato baker in a desert climate.

GM is catering to popular demand by black color offerings. The current style rage is “Bad Ass” of which the style color is black. The most popular color for Harley motorcycles it glossy and satin black. The street trade crowd loves expensive black vehicles. Black is now a very popular tee shirt color, as are black leather belts with contrasting blue jeans, black tennie runners and black engineer boots. Even Mary Barra dons black suits and leathers in public appearances.
The current macho style cycle also includes ball caps with black framed sunglasses mounted on the front bills of the ballcaps, with glasses mounted there by wearers even when outside on sunny days. Black tattoos are huge, along with black leather chained wallets.

So don’t fault GM on their black color offerings, it’s all about current style and popular demand. Also note the amount of black beards worn by males between the ages of 18 and 45 years of age.

30+ years ago it was the cowboy style with the Marlboro man and horses, when country honky tonks and Rexall rangers were very popular.

          1. David , yes Harleys are gloss black and even satin, GM does unfinshed cheap @ss wheel lip moldings , bed steps, bumper steps , HOOD plastics , unfinished mud guards, the grills are half painted and unpainted and it go’s on. I fault GM for the cheap $hit cost cutting. a 90K truck should have painted pieces that are not all faded out in a year. I am not the only one that complains about there cheap black interiors, I’m probably the most vocal. Isn’t the whole world happy now that we have Brandon and the giggling yack running the country so there is no more mean tweets. I use to really like GM trucks, I own one of these cheap pieces of garbage, and it reeks cheap at ever angle.

          3. David, READ the multiple comments on here saying the same dam thing I’m saying. Its gloss paint mated with Cheap un-finished black plastics. its the same plastic’s on a work truck as it is a denali but cost 90 grand. go look at the 2023 Blazer on todays blog, its 1/3 the cost and everything is painted including all the black plastic. GM cheap ass looking Junk.

That’s what the cost accountants in collaboration with the designers call PROFIT !!!

You put a yellow stripe and Carhartt C decal or badge on it, and boost the price a grand or two.

P-R-O-F-I-T is the name of the game in business.

          4. Doesn’t anyone see the irony in “Bad Ass”? Those bound to trends are either too meek or unoriginal to risk going against the grain and making their own choices. Which is pretty much the antithesis of badass.

A metallic fuchsia standard cab stick-shift 2wd pickup on 14” rims would be a lot closer to badass. Driven by a clean shaven man in a pinstriped green zoot suit who doesn’t acknowledge preferred pronouns.

            1. Yes the word BAD ASS usually comes from young gear head , and that same guy gets his crap repoed 6 months after buying it , or there GOV ment check runs out. That same guy lifts his truck a foot higher, and the wheels and tires stick out past the fenders 8″ . Alot of these guys will have problems soon , Brandon on his way out and he won’t even know he’s gone. everybody still living on stimulus , full of debt, ect. 50% of these guys live 30 days to being bankrupt

  2. Kinda like ford in the beginning….you can have any color, so long as it’s black.

A black interior just sucks in the summer, even with black window tint.

Don’t forget, you can get the Duramax, you will have black oil in a few hundred miles after an oil change.

  3. Good points, but I like it with the bright wheels. In design you need contrast. It would look to street with black wheels.

I’m with you on the multi flex tailgate for the 1500 Chevy double cab. I would send an email to Shahid Khan, the owner of Flex-N-Gate LLC, in Champaign – Urbana, with a copy to your Chevy zone manager and a copy to the Chevrolet motor division manager requesting such.

Flex-N-Gate is a huge parts designer and maker for GM and the other automakers. Shahid Khan is a good guy. Self made. He is also the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Many of the innovative vehicle concepts such as the multi flex tailgate originated at Flex-N-Gate, LLC. They make pickup tailgates for everybody and bumpers too.

Automakers are giant parts assemblers from other outside vendors. About 90+% of a vehicle’s parts are from vendors. And the vendors do the design and engineering work also.

    2. Nope. The Multi-Flex/MultiPro is from Multimatic out of Toronto, Canada. It’s not even secret, it’s featured on their website.

      1. From what I understand, Multimatic produces the MultiPro / Multi-Flex… but the idea and execution came from within GM.

        1. I’ll stand corrected on Multimatic of Toronto producing the Multi -Flex tailgate. A+. Good job.

Who is the Asian vendor producing the 3.0 baby Duramax?

I understand the baby Duramax was designed and engineered offshore.

          1. That was formerly GM Powertrain Torino in Italy. It was split from Fiat-GM Powertrain when Fiat bought Chrysler. When GM pulled out of Europe, it was sold to Punch.

The actual production is by GM in Flint.
