As many readers of this site will already know, General Motors has been forced to reduce the availability of heated seats, ventilated seats, and heated steering wheels for much of its vehicle lineup due to the global semiconductor chip shortage. This includes its premium GMC truck brand, which saw the introduction of reduced heated steering wheel availability for a handful of its models earlier this month.
GMC models that will have limited heated steering wheel availability for the foreseeable future include the GMC Acadia and GMC Yukon, as well as the GMC Sierra and Sierra HD full-size pickup trucks. The availability of the heated steering wheel feature in these models hinges on the trim level chosen and other factors. For example, the GMC Yukon will offer heated steering wheel availability in certain models, but the feature will not come with automatic activation.

- Feature made unavailable as of November 15 production
- Heated steering wheel still available, but automatic activation feature removed
- Feature made unavailable as of December 6 production
- Feature unavailable since beginning of 2022 model year production
- Feature unavailable since late July 2021 production
These changes went into effect Monday, November 15th, for some GMC models, while other vehicles did not see these changes applied until November 22nd or December 6th. It’s currently not clear when the features may return, but for now, it’s expected that the feature deletion will remain in place for at least the remainder of the 2022 model year.
As we pointed out in previous articles, the future availability of these features depends on when GM can lock down additional microchip supplies – which is a highly fluid situation that changes week-to-week. Affected models might come with a small credit ranging between $150 and $500, depending on the features affected. Some vehicles may also be eligible for feature retrofitting in the future.
GM Authority has already covered the addition of limited heated steering wheel availability for the Chevy brand, Buick brand and Cadillac brand in separate articles. We encourage readers to visit those posts to learn more about how this change affects GM’s other brands.

Does this deletion of heated seats and steering wheel include the orders from a dealership in October 2021 ?
I oder truck in July still not been shipped is this the reason
also been wait since August. can’t even get a call back from my dealer on updates…
I ordered a canyon denali in September have a build date of February 11 if I dont get what I originally ordered I will not be a happy camper heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated seats thats almost the whole denali trim level 😅 that they have deleted
It’s not clear if the cut off is “order” date or “build” date. Also, GM has not provide clear info on how they will rectify this situation at a future date. Meanwhile, my local Ford dealer sent a $3500 voucher to order a F250 Lariat since they knew I ordered a 2500HD AT4 and GM pulled a switcheroo, which they explained allows me to refuse the truck when it shows up if its not exactly as I ordered it. Nothing down, and not locked into taking the truck when it comes in. Already has the upgrades GM “might” do in 23. But 4-6 month wait… Fingers crossed GM pulls through.
Will gm do retro fit on Yukon XL heated sterring wheel and seats?
