2023 Corvette Z06 Will Rev To 8,600 RPM: Video

The all-new 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 is scheduled to debut next week, with the big sheet pull happening Tuesday, October 26th in a new 30-minute video titled “Putting the World on Notice.” Now, General Motors is building hype for the reveal with the following teaser video that hints at the new Corvette Z06 redline.

The forthcoming 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 debut video will feature professional basketball player and gold medal-winner Devin Booker, as well YouTube superstar and performance driver Emelia Hartford, both of whom will dive into the development process behind the new go-faster mid-engine ‘Vette with some of GM’s engineers and designers.

The latest teaser video for the upcoming debut gives us a few interesting tidbits to go on ahead of the official reveal event. One of the more interesting bits is the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 redline, which looks to be set at a head-spinning 8,600 rpm.

The associated teaser announcement mentions that the debut even will take place in “8,600” minutes, or about six days. Naturally, that lines up with October 26th, however, it’s also a nod to the stratospheric rev capabilities of the the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06’s naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 gasoline engine.

During the teaser video, we get a shot of the new sports car’s tachometer, which climbs furiously towards the 8,600-rpm redline.

“It revs so hard!” exclaims Hartford from the passenger seat.

Of course, this isn’t official confirmation of the 2023 Corvette Z06 redline, but it does seem like a pretty strong hint as to what we can expect.

To that point, the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06’s naturally aspirated 5.5L V8 LT6 is based on the same V8 found in the Corvette C8.R race car, and features a flat-plane crank, dual overhead cams, and an exotic-sounding exhaust note. Output is expected to hit around 615 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque.

        1. I mean ford had the GT a long time ago. But I don’t think they will have there feelings hurt over the corvette. I think the C8 is nice and I’m glad it’s there for the people that want it.

          1. How many people had 500k for it?

            1. I’m not really sure why that matters? If you read above Initially I asked why would anyones feelings be hurt, which Geoff replied ford fan boys who will never get their hands on a mid-engine ford, which I replied well they have the GT and have had it for a very long time. Now sure if you wanna talk price ok whatever I also know a lot of people who would love to have a C8 but guess what??? They can’t afford it. My reply had nothing to do with the price of any vehicle it was the fact that a mid-engine ford has existed since what the 60s?

              1. Now that would be a sweet garage to have both a new GT and a C8. Could you imagine getting to switch between those two beasts for daily drivers. 😁 a boy can dream right.

    2. Let’s hope it’s better than the C7 Z06 as the feelings that got hurt then were the buyers and engineers.

        1. This site gets a mix of GM fan boys like Nebula, and C8.R that are so ridiculous in their defense of GM that they must be on the payroll, enthusiasts like me that will give GM credit when they do good, but also bash them when they don’t do good, boomers who are still living in the 1960’s and think the world is flat (the ones that want to bring back the 8.1 in the pickups), and then there are the haters, who just hate GM and everything they do.

  5. They already can’t make enough Stingrays, how will they find capacity for the Z06? Nice problem to have.

    1. Hopefully the supply chain will loosen up next year, GM is planning to ramp C8 production a lot.

      Reply
      1. BG is pumping out at max capacity now I think. But it is possible that with global (RHD) availability and new demographics, chevy may have a product that they cannot meet demand for. Enviable position if it turns out that way.

        Reply
        1. Huh? C8 production has struggled, and never reached the 4000+ per month GM originally guided was the plan. It has been more like 2500 a month with numerous stoppages. This is why the Z06 got pushed back because they did not need it yet to boost sales.

          Reply
          1. So true. They can’t make enough of anything right now, this isn’t a Corvette specific issue.

            Reply
            1. Exactly. I think 2022 C8 production will be much higher, hopefully getting close to that 4K a month.

              Reply
          2. I think you missed the word “now” in my comment. 2022 production, granted only for the last month, has gone off normally. They are pumping 800-900 units per week out. I did not say they did not have previous problems. I said now they are going normally and IF demand holds, the C8 will not be on lots at a discount like prior generations. I got 10K off my C7’s, both of them. One in 2016 and one in 2019. I do not expect to get a discount until at least 2023, and maybe never on a C8.

            Reply
            1. C8 production is more stable now, but still not at the levels GM hoped for, and has demand for. I think C8 could move 5-6K per month if they could build them currently.

Discounts on C8? haha! see you in 2026 or later. It will take a global recession for C8 production to get ahead of demand, and with all the variants in the pipeline, this should generate a lot of excitement around the platform for at least 5 more years.

  6. Now we know topped out in 3rd gear is 100 mph, and from acceleration runs it gets there in around 5.5 seconds, this car is getting more impressive by the day. 0-60 in around 2.5 seconds is looking more and more possible.

    1. Seems like they kept the same final drive as the Z51 – I figured they’d go a little steeper, but I guess it didn’t need it haha.

      Reply
      1. Typically with a higher revving engine you will have lower gears (numerically higher ratio), and that appears to be the case here. On the track you need the power to get off the turns at different speeds, and the Z06 is all about track performance. With an engine that pulls hard from 5000-8600 RPM, instead of 4500-6500 like the Z51 you defiantly need gear changes to optimize.

        Reply
        1. Yep, steeper = numerically higher (also shorter). Guess I did my math wrong yesterday – could be using about 11% shorter final drive (which would be around a 5.8:1) than the Z51’s.

          Reply
  7. More than outright speed, the Z06 needs to own the track.

  8. I WANT MY CORVETTE TO SOUND LIKE A CORVETTE NOT AN EXOTIC. THIS IS AMERICA JACK!!!

    1. ROFL! Then you will never reach the performance needed. A FPC is a necessity!

    2. Don’t buy one then… You can find a used C7 to fill your ears with that burble you like.

  9. Next week will be exceptional for automakers and enthusiasts for full debuts.

Can’t wait to see what other enhancements this car will get over the Stingray.

    1. I hear it has some pretty serious light weighting, excited to see the official specs, most of which likely will not be released until production starts next year.

      1. The current C8 could stand to lose a few pounds. It will be interesting to see how much. Not sure how they would do it without the use of more exotic materials. Good to hear if true.

        Reply
        1. Ya, I hear it has a lot of magnesium alloys in strategic areas. We will have to wait and see… I am taking the > 100 lb reduced.

  10. It is PEAK GM to bring on a “YouTube superstar” and a “professional basketball player” for the video. McLaren would bring on Lewis Hamilton for new car reveals in the past, and other European automakers would do a similar thing, but we get a basketball player. It’s a Corvette, a high-performance one at that, so why not have C8.R race car drivers star in the video? Wouldn’t that make more sense? The car is even designed to look like the C8.R! But GM doesn’t want to appeal to “that crowd.” For the same reason Cadillac is so big on the irrelevant emmys or oscars or whatever.

Having said that, I like the sound of it, personally. It sounds closer to the C8.R than a regular C8, which I always thought sounded too…typical. I’m sure the Z06 will be a great car.

    1. Since the Corvette races in the GTLM class using a version of this engine, they are required by homologation rules to use it in the street version of the Corvette (unless they get a waiver). So, this engine will be around for a while.

  12. OK, the engine sounds great. It won’t be for sale to the GP till 2023 so No One knows if there will be any problems with the new engine. Everyone knows the problem with the wheels that are made in China that are on the Corvettes that people own, are we going to maybe have to deal with the same issues with GM on the engine if there is problems like on the MADE IN CHINA WHEELS? I guess we won’t know until we buy one to find out!
