2022 GMC Yukon Loses These Two Paint Colors

The 2022 GMC Yukon will do away with two of the available exterior colors that were previously offered in the 2021MY.

2021 GMC Yukon in Dark Sky Metallic

Both Dark Sky Metallic and Smokey Quartz Metallic exterior colors have been discontinued for the 2022 GMC Yukon. Additionally, one new exterior color has been introduced for the 2022MY in the way of Redwood Metallic.

Dark Sky Metallic, for readers who may be unaware, is a light blue exterior color that costs $495 to equip on the 2021 GMC Yukon. Smokey Quartz Metallic, meanwhile, is a brownish-beige hue that also costs $495. Redwood Metallic is an all-new exterior color for General Motors and has not been officially shown as of this writing, although we assume it will be a dark red/burgundy hue based on the name.

The GMC Yukon received a comprehensive redesign for the 2021MY and as such, GM has only applied very minor changes to the popular full-size SUV for 2022. The 2022 Yukon will introduce standard Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and will also feature a new standard 12-inch digital driver information cluster. GM has also made the 6.2L L87 V8 gasoline engine available in the off-road focused AT4 trim level for 2022. Previously, the AT4 trim was only available to order with the 5.3L L84 V8 gasoline engine.

The 6.2L V8 L87 is the most powerful engine available for the GMC Yukon, producing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine is rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The 3.0L LM2 Duramax inline-six turbodiesel engine will return for the 2022MY, as well, and will continue to produce 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All three available engines in the 2022 GMC Yukon pair with a GM 10-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel-drive. Four-wheel-drive is also available for a price premium, although it comes as standard on AT4 models.

The 2022 GMC Yukon will enter production at the GM Arlington Assembly plant in Texas later this year.

  1. I don’t know about the Yukon, but Dark Sky Metallic is VERY popular on the Sierra and they would be very dumb to drop that paint on the Sierra too.

    1. It’s a great color. I am seeing it more and more.

I’d call it a dark gray with a bluish tint though versus light blue.

    2. Agreed, it is a commonly seen color on both the Sierra and the Yukon out where I live and was planning on getting that color when the 2024 model comes to the market in a few years, I’m sure gm will have a color similar to Dark Sky by that time line I guess.

  2. Really wish they would bring back the dark red metallic from a couple of years ago. The current red is to bright. Hope the redwood metallic is dark red.
I’m ordering a 2022 as soon as I can get the trailer package. It’s currently unavailable due to the chip shortage.

  3. We looked, briefly, at a used 2019 Yukon painted in “Smokey Quartz Metallic”. We immediately dubbed that horrible color “Brindle-sh*t-Brown”…LOL….no wonder they are getting rid of it…..YUUUUKKKK !

  4. I have a 2020 Yukon SLT in Dark Sky Metallic. I keep it clean and It’s very sharp. I continuously receive compliments on the color. I was planning on ordering a 2022 Yukon SLT in Dark Sky Metallic. I’m not a fan of the other know colors so this will create a problem for me. Hoping the new Redwood Metallic color is better than any of the red/burgundy colors GM offers.

  5. Dark Sky Metallic is a great color. If being pulled then I guess I will have to wait until it comes back before ordering my new Yukon.
