The upcoming 2022 Buick Encore GX will get new fuel economy numbers, with a few moderate improvements and decreases depending on the powertrain selected.
Like the 2021 model year, the 2022 Buick Encore GX will continue to be offered with two engine options, including the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH and the turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T, as well as either front-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive. Fuel economy numbers will vary depending on the configuration selected.
For 2022 Buick Encore GX models with the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH and front-wheel drive, fuel economy is rated at 29 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined. The figures represent a 1 mpg increase to both city and combined ratings.
Meanwhile, 2022 Buick Encore GX models with the turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T and front-wheel drive are rated at 29 mpg in the city, 32 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined , and a decrease of 1 mpg in the city and combined when compared to the 2021 model year.
Finally, 2022 Buick Encore GX models with the turbocharged 1.3L I3 L3T and all-wheel drive are rated at 26 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined, a decrease of 1 mpg combined compared to the 2021 model year.
According to Buick and GMC Product & Brand Communications Coordinator Bethany Corne, “engine recertification tests demonstrated robustness improvements on the vehicle’s electrical loads, resulting in better fuel economy” regarding the 1.2L engine, while calibrations for “a quieter ride and quicker acceleration response” are responsible for the 1.3L engine number changes.
To note, the Buick Encore GX is not available with the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH and all-wheel drive. The turbo 1.2L engine connects to a CVT, while the turbo 1.3L L3T connects to either the CVT or a nine-speed automatic.

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is the third model year of the first-generation vehicle, once again slotting in between the subcompact Buick Encore and compact Buick Envision in Buick’s model lineup. Under the skin, the crossover rides on the GM VSS-F platform. The 2022 Encore GX will also offer four new exterior paint colors. The crossover is expected to make its debut in the U.S. in 2021, with a launch in the second half of the year.

These engines are getting quite small. If it weren’t for the prospect of EVs, I think in ten years time everyone would be driving around in twincharger half liters.
We’ve enjoyed are turbocharged AWD 2020 GX. We get around 26-30 MPG.
