The upcoming 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will deliver a significant refresh set to include a revised front fascia design. Now, we’re getting our first look at the updated light-duty Sierra Denali sans camo thanks to the following leaked image.
Although this new leaked image is a little fuzzy, it still provides us with a good idea of what the front end of the upcoming 2022 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 will look like.
Compared to the current 2021 model year, the upcoming 2022 GMC Sierra Denali 1500 features a new grille design that’s more square and smooth, as compared to the “notches” seen along the lower portion of the current grille design.

The new front end also incorporates redesigned headlamps, which now bear a long lighting signature that accents the fascia’s lower styling lines. The lower silver accent on the bumper is now black.
In addition to the redesigned front end, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra is also expected to introduce a new rear fascia, new wheel designs for certain models and trim levels, and a few new exterior colors as well.

Beyond the exterior styling changes, the upcoming pickup will introduce a brand-new cabin design, including an overhauled dash, center stack, infotainment screen, and center console. The pickup’s gauge cluster will be redesigned and will offer the option of a fully digital display, while the column shifter will be replaced with a new gear selector. Further updates will include new interior storage and the introduction of a larger sunroof option.
Under the skin, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will migrate to the new Global B electrical architecture, while the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system will be offered as an optional extra on Denali trim levels. The upcoming Sierra is also expected to see an increase in payload capacity and potentially an increase in towing capacity as well.

I work for WCG Buick GMC in Colorado as a sales and leasing consultant. We all know the refresh is coming! It was delayed due to COVID 19. The order cycle for the 2022 model year Sierra 1500 models will kick off in mid August with units scheduled to get built late September. Expect a mid to late October delivery!
It would be smart if GM reveals it soon so people can reserve with their stimulus money. Obviously, many people will use that money for more important things, but I guarantee some would be more willing to take the leap.
If people are needing that stimulus money to buy a truck, they cannot afford that truck.

Wow, I’m a Ford guy, but the latest GM trucks have really impressed me. I really like the look of this refresh so far. They made it a little less in your face which I think is a good thing.

Unfortunately it still has the awkward wheel openings. I’m just not a fan of it. Other than that it’s looking quite promising.
What is the obsession with the wheel well arches? The Tacoma has angled ones, so does the 4 Runners, Jeep Grand Cherokees all have them. They do perfectly fine, the Tacoma is an off-road king. You guys need to lay off on it lmao
It’s a design thing. Some people like some designs and others don’t. Each of those you mentioned has symmetrical angles wheel arch. The Sierra does not. Some people find symmetry attractive. I think you should lay off. SMH Lmfao.
Actually it is not a design thing. The shape GMC is using is an Aero design that keeps the air out of the wheel wells for less drag.
When this truck came out they explained the odd shape as not a design element but one that actually helped MPG Wheel wells and tires are major drag elements on the trucks and GM has been trying to address it with little things here and there.

Any shape of something as planned out by someone is a design whether it is for a specific purpose or for aesthetics. There may be a reason behind it per your statement but it is still a design. Also as I don’t see a difference in mpg between the twins I don’t think the explanation is working.
It’s not even the fact that’s it’s angled that I don’t like. It’s the non-symmetry of them. Many may not notice, but I do.
One may buy a Chevrolet. One may buy a GMC. One may buy any range of vehicles. After all, it is ones own decision what to spend ones own money on. But since this is an Internet forum where everyone is forced to see my opinion they get to. Even if they don’t want to. Alas this is a double edged sword though where I must also hear other’s opinions.

I agree Greg, the Sierra has the worst well wheels of all full size trucks. The 2013 Sierra was a good looking truck and was nearly perfect. Since 2014 the GMC design has been getting clunkier and clunkier. From the wheel wells, to hogging out holes in the bumper, to the lastest holes hogged out on the side of the truck. Also, the stupid line in the tailgate makes it look like it’s wearing a baby bib. Save for the frontend, I like the Silverado design better. Speaking of the Silverado, the High Country now looks classier than the Denali because it doesn’t have all that gaudy chrome. The Sierra design is getting worse and worse.
It’s a good thing there are 2 brands to choose from. This way you can get the one that looks good to you. I mean, if they were exactly the same with a different grill, what would be the point?
That only holds somewhat true for the exterior. The interior is nearly identical for both trucks .
Very blurry image but if thats actually it I think it’s safe to say they are going for more of a 2500/3500 look. Makes sense since the new F-150 went with more of a SuperDuty look. I agree with those saying lets just see the dang thing already lol.
Though when the new Super Duty came out, it was actually designed under the influence of the F-150, the other way around. Made it look like they took an F-150 and expanded it in every shape and direction lol.
Looks like it still has the two design flaws that annoy me. The hood line doesn’t flow with the rest of the truck and the wheel wells are just hideous. Hope the twins get a generator like the F-150 soon. That’s the biggest game changer I have seen in years and Ford got plenty of free advertising via the news thanks to the snow storm.
I’d love an optional in-bed air compressor as well, and optional in-bed radio controls. Not just the silly little speakers in the multi-pro tailgate.

Enough with the exterior changes. Did they do anything to the interior, or are they still going to continue selling us old, outdated interior pieces?
The article talks about the expected interior changes. It’s no secret at this point that the interior is a focus of the 22 MCE. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will be a significant improvement.
Great looking truck love the different wheel arches and front end…let the wanna be semi truck drivers who are rude and got an attitude problem what I mean buy attitude is man I got a hemi so I going to cut everyone off and make my left turn and cause a five car accident cause my truck is coot man.
buy a RAM…then I will laugh when the ram stars getting recalls at 6 months old and speaking of Tacoma my local GMC dealer has a fresh one it’s gotta be 2019 or 2020 to got traded in…guess the Tocoma it lost its outdated crown lol wawawa!
Wish there was a better picture but from what I can tell I like the new front end. Headlights don’t look like an F-150 as much and agree, they resemble the 2500 more so which I like. Also looks slightly more angular but hard to really say from the blurry picture. I’m hoping GMC has some press releases on this new model soon.

Something isn’t right about the image. The letters on the grill aren’t distinguishable as GMC. So it seems other characteristics are likely overemphasized. My guess is the headlights are similar to what we’re currently seeing and then there’s a new grill. Seems odd though they’re dumping their new grill after only 3 calendar years.
Sometime in the coming months we’ll see the real thing.
Seems they are always so close and promising to making it look better but end up with too many awkward angles, creases and vents. Simpler is always better.
I can wait. A little longer. The other makes are not sitting still.
I will thumbs down anything with a garbage 8 speed.
I hope they address the defrost problem on the front windshield from freezing up at the bottom in the Winter time
I like how the bumper goes straight across the whole front end instead of dipping down around the foglights on the current model. I always found that design to be a little messy looking. This has a much more clean look to it in my opinion. I do find it surprising that the front end seems to follow the design language of the Terrain more than the Yukon and HD.
The look overall, seems more cleaned up from the current model and the headlights appear to be taking cues from the recently revealed GMC Sierra Denali 3500 Future Concept Truck. For the most part, it looks to be another potential good seller.
So it will look like the current GMC Terrain?
It looks as if it’s taking cues from the Sierra HD and just adding more updated elements it’s look, but the long C-Shape LED’s do make it look more Terrain like, would have to see more CLEAR photos to really take it all in.
Thank God GMC appears to have deleted that indentation into the head lights. The fuzzy picture already makes the refresh look better.
I wonder if they’ll modify the front bumper/air dam at all, especially on the AT4 model. Would be nice if they cut more of the air dam away on AT4 model for more offroad performance, kind of similar to what they did on the new Yukon AT4 model.
Anyone know what potential colors might be released? Possibly a dark grey or carbon grey? Thoughts
Some updates could reflect some of the updated Exterior Colors that were recently seen on the Yukon and Canyon, I personally wouldn’t expect any color updates to deviate far from that range between those 2 vehicles, but it would be nice if they could take it a step further with some of the “Stand Out” color choices that both the RAM and the Tundra are currently displaying.
