Despite the GMC brand being available in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, the Canyon is sold in the U.S. and Canada, but not in Mexico.
GMC Canyon sales performance during the fourth quarter of 2020 keeps the midsize pickup truck in sixth, and last place in its segment in terms of cumulative sales volume, behind the Toyota Tacoma in first place, the Canyon’s corporate cousin – the Chevrolet Colorado – in second place (see running Chevrolet Colorado sales), new Ford Ranger in third place (see running Ford Ranger sales), the all-new Jeep Gladiator in fourth and the Nissan Frontier in fifth.

Even so, the Canyon’s 38 percent growth rated was the highest in its segment during the quarter. The Jeep Gladiator and Toyota Tacoma came close with 23 and 22.9 percent, respectively.
The GMC Canyon saw its share of the midsize pickup truck segment grow from 4 to 5 percent during the fourth quarter. By comparison, the Toyota Tacoma shaw its share jump from 38 percent to 44 percent, Chevy Colorado saw a 16 percent share that’s equal to that of the year-ago quarter, Ford Ranger’s share slipped from 21 to 16 percent, Jeep Gladiator saw a two percentage point growth of 12 percent and the Nissan Frontier tanked from 11 to 6 percent.

It’s worth noting that combined deliveries of the two GM offerings – the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado – totaled 36,716 units, resulting in a 21.5 percent share. That’s good enough for second place in the segment, behind the Tacoma but ahead of the Ranger and all other rivals.
The mid-size mainstream pickup truck segment expanded 6 percent to 170,161 units during the fourth quarter of 2020, meaning that Canyon sales outpaced the average segment growth rate.

The jump in GMC Canyon sales during Q4 2020 is a pleasant surprise given the model’s otherwise lackluster performance during the first three quarters of the 2020 calendar year. We attribute the Canyon’s healthy uptick to the following two factors:

GMC does well when they have inventory. Since the virus they have struggled to get trucks out. Now we haver the chip issue.
I'm not sure why the Canyon struggles with sales. I find it one the best looking, maybe the best looking of the midsize trucks.
Looks aren’t everything. Cramped interior, tiny foot well, low door height, seats offset in relation to the steering wheel so they can fit that chest freezer box between the seats.
Well the truck with the worse seating arrangement is the segment leader.
Low door height...you drunk? People having to hop-up just to get in the passenger seat is the main complaint I get with my Colorado version.
No, I am not. It’s the actual opening of the door it’s height but I cannot deal with. I know it’s a climb up, but that is not the issue. I actually have to step down into a Buick encore, but this door height is so great, it’s like stepping into a 39 Hudson. The height of the vehicle has nothing to do with it. The height of the door frame itself, does. PS: I don’t drink.
in 2019, canyon/colorado grabbed 25.6% of the market. in 2020, they grabbed about 21.1%.
despite luft's happy talk headline, their share is actually shrinking.
Little s Steve. You fail to bring up that there is more products in the segment now as the Ford and Jeep have come and they will take a little of all sales as this is not a segment that is going to grow a lot.
you fail to mention ford/jeep models didn't affect the tacoma. in fact they gained market share.
I'm 6 ft. 215lbs and when I test drove the Canyon, I had plenty of room with lots left over. I wear 2 xl shirt and size 13 shoe, so cramped room is false. I will tell you when I sat in the Tacoma, I was cramped in the foot area and my head was very close to hitting the roof.

I’m only 6-1, but have short legs and arms, so, loonnggg torso. I just, flat didn’t fit. As for the Tacoma: I have no idea what the cab is line because I genuinely, actually, literally, really, can’t even get in the door on one. Seriously. I, too, am 2XL, with shoulders in separate postal codes 14x5E shoes. (No, I can’t walk on water; I tried.)
I grant you, it is indeed a nice-looking truch. I just can’t fit right in one.
I have a 2018 canyon..and the leg room is great..I'm 6-4 about 278... And Im just fine...now grant it I will not be sitting in the extra can.but the driver side and front passenger is big enough for me,and I move my chair up so my daughter has room..no complaints from her for room..she 14 and 5-11...took it up to bigbear 2 weeks ago,drove good and had no complaints of room...now I ride share with a coworker who has a tacoma and I'm hitting my head on the door jam almost all the time.have to push the seat back for I can be comfortable..but if we pick up others have to move the seat up.....
I love my Canyon. It is really quick having the 3.L V6 and is easy to park on the city.
I just bought a new 2021 Canyon Denali, love it, had it in the snow, and it performed perfect. Nice looking and a great size truck,good vision and performance.
