The GM Authority Take

Chevrolet Brazil sales decreased once again during December 2020, marking the ninth consecutive month during which sales of the Bow Tie brand fell in the South American country. However, Chevrolet significantly improved its sales performance in December compared to November. In fact, December represented Chevy’s highest sales figure during all of 2020, with 42,214 vehicles sold. This allowed it to become the best-selling automobile brand in Brazil – a title it has held over the past several years – both during December and throughout the 2020 calendar year.

Chevy’s December 2020 performance was driven by the Chevrolet Onix best-seller. In December, the subcompact vehicle range achieved its best monthly sales performance during the 2020 calendar year, with 29,485 deliveries. That represents almost 70 percent of Chevrolet’s cumulative sales volume during the month. The performance allowed the Onix to further increase its market share while also establishing itself as the best-selling vehicle in Brazil for the sixth consecutive year.

The only Chevrolet models that posted increases in sales volumes in December were the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Camaro, Tracker and TrailBlazer. The Chevrolet Tracker performed particularly well, setting both monthly and yearly sales records of 6,749 and 49,372 units, respectively, since being introduced in the Brazilian market in 2001. The performance makes the all-new subcompact crossover the vehicle with the fastest-growing sales volume in Brazil.
