GM China Sales Increase 14 Percent In Fourth Quarter 2020

GM China sales increased 14 percent to 954,325 units during the fourth quarter of 2020, marking second increase in calendar year 2020, which was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sales increased at the Buick, Cadillac and Wuling brands, while decreased at Chevrolet and Baojun.

General Motors does not provide individual sales performance of sales in China, but we do have the following information.

SAIC-GM Sales – Q4 2020

Fourth-quarter 2020 sales results at SAIC-GM – GM’s primary joint venture in China responsible for Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac operations – increased 19.7 percent to 454,909 units:

Buick sales increased 28 percent to 290,027 units

  • Sales of Buick’s SUV family surged 50.1 percent
  • The long-standing leader in the MPV segment, the GL8, added the all-new Avenir family and had sales growth of 6.2 percent year-over-year
  • Buick expanded its new energy vehicle (NEV) lineup with the introduction of the Velite 7 all-electric crossover and Velite 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)

Chevrolet sales decreased 16 percent to 84,818 units

  • The brand continued to optimize its product mix and solidify its foothold in the SUV segment through the launch of the Blazer with multiple seating configurations
  • Chevy also offered a wider range of propulsion options to meet its customers’ diverse preferences and introduced the brand’s first electric vehicle, the Menlo EV

Cadillac sales increased 56 percent to 80,064 units

  • Growth was spearheaded by the brand’s SUV family – the XT4, XT5 and XT6 – whose combined sales grew 40.3 percent from a year earlier
  • With the introduction of the CT4 luxury sedan, Cadillac now has its strongest portfolio ever in China to compete in the steady-growing luxury vehicle segment

SAIC-GM-Wuling Sales – Q4 2020

Fourth-quarter 2020 sales results at SAIC-GM-Wuling – GM’s other Chinese joint venture responsible for Wuling and Baojun brands – increased 9.4 percent to 499,416 units:

Baojun sales decreased 30 percent to 125,837 units

  • The brand strengthened its image through its focus on youth, connectivity and intelligence
  • In addition, two new electric vehicles, the E300 and E300 Plus, joined Baojun’s NEV portfolio in 2020

Wuling sales increased 35 percent to 373,579 units

  • While maintaining its leadership position in the mini-commercial vehicle segment, it introduced the global silver badge, expanding its presence in the passenger vehicle segment
  • Its first electric vehicle, the Hong Guang MINI EV, was the best-selling EV in China in the fourth quarter, with cumulative sales surpassing 117,000 units following its launch in July

During the complete 2020 calendar year, GM China sales decreased 6 percent to 2,901,102 units.

  1. would be nice to see senior management use information like this to promote and motivate its share price. Elon Musk would use information like this to promote his company share price. CEO, CFO, Presidents etc. all have a responsibility to work for the shareholders
