The GM Authority Take
There’s a silver lining to the 27 percent drop in sales volume: December marked GM Mexico’s highest sales figure (by volume) of all prior months during the 2020 calendar year. In addition, three of GM’s four brands managed to post increases in sales volume on an annual basis.
Unfortunately, none of that was enough to post positive results, causing GM Mexico sales to fall 27 percent during December 2020. The performance represents the tenth consecutive month of diminished sales volume for the company in the Latin American country.
The poor GM Mexico sales performance in December is mainly the result of a hefty decline in Chevrolet sales. Like in most parts of the world, the Bow Tie brand is GM’s sales leader in the Latin Country, and the decline in Chevy sales was caused by noteworthy decreases in two models – the Chevrolet Aveo and Chevrolet Beat. Together, the duo accounted for 10,776 fewer deliveries compared to December 2019.
In addition, the Chevrolet Trax experienced the highest and most significant drop in sales volume among all of of the automaker’s models as the vehicle was discontinued in the Mexican market.
By contrast, the new Chevrolet Onix and Chevrolet Tracker, the latter of which serves as the replacement for the Trax in Mexico, were the company’s best-selling models in December. Both vehicles recorded their best-ever sales on a volume basis during the final month of 2020, with 4,647 and 2,147 sales, respectively.
Likewise, the entire range of GM full-size pickup trucks (Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra) and full-size SUVs (Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade) registered significant increases, further cementing their place as leaders in their respective segments in the Latin country.

Comments
Blazer 100% built in Mexico and 148 sold there in Dec 2020. Most Equinox built there and 157 sold. Says a lot about buying power of Mexican gm workers and the Mexican nation as a whole. Noticed the drug cartel leaders had increased purchases of Suburbans and Escalades however. Bet that they were all ordered in black!
Not taking only Mexico into account, I feel the world of Cadillac has been changed over and are just higher priced “Chevrolets” in car bodies. They all look the same now just like the Impala and Cadillac XTS model did in 2015 & 2016…the difference is emblems, name, seats were same with different emblems, but of course bigger price on Cadillac. It is absolutely ridiculous and now Cadillac offers only a CT4 & CT5 smaller cars than the larger CT6 which has been discontinued. These SUV’s & Crossovers are all the same. So buy the Cadillac to show your neighbors, but all in all it is just a Chevy. Wake up Cadillac. I have owned new Cadillacs every 3 years since 1998 and now I may have to unfortunately look elsewhere for a “Car”.
This hurts because I have only been a GM buyer my whole life of driving.
YOU BUILD ALL THAT CRAP DOWN THERE, N U STILL SCREW UP AN CANT SELL IT.
Silverado in Mexico has a new package out of the Work Truck. It is getting a lot of traction in sales. A similar package in on the works for the Regular Cab.
