General Motors completely overhauled its full-size SUV lineup for the 2021 model year, with the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade all receiving brand-new, ground-up redesigns and a fresh fifth generation (twelfth generation for the Suburban). Now, rumor has it the latest line of full-size GM SUV models will get a substantial power boost by way of a dealer-installed supercharger option.
According to a recent report from MotorTrend, which cites an anonymous insider source, the next-gen full-size GM SUV lineup may be offered with a new blower good for an extra 200 horsepower. The publication adds that the forced induction upgrade could be part of a performance package that includes things like better brakes, as well.
According to MotorTrend’s source, the supercharger upgrade won’t be extended to GM’s pickup truck line.
We’ve previously reported on possible high-performance variants of GM’s new SUVs, including a “very powerful” new Cadillac Escalade.
For reference, each of the next-gen full-size GM SUV models in question is offered with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 as the top-performing gasoline engine. In standard trim, the L87 produces 420 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,100. Pop the rumored supercharger on top, and output could reach as high as 620 horsepower total.
To note, each of the full-size GM SUV models mentioned also offer the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax, which produces 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, while the Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon can be had with the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 as well, which produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.
All engine options mate to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Under the skin, the latest full-size GM SUV models ride on the GM T1 platform, featuring an independent multilink rear suspension, as well as available Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension.

If driven properly you would be getting 4mpg on these then.
And?
This is what everyone has been craving for.
Hmm interesting they claim it will be dealer installed
Have pit a supercharger on my GMC Sierra and it is awesome, it should be an option on the pickups for sure. It was the way the truck should have been built because i hear constantly where i work that these trucks are underpowered, i work at a dealer…I would hope they do proceed with this option.
Please, please make this an option for the pickup trucks to!
I just purchased a 2021 Yukon Dinali so notify me as soon as this is available and I will have it installed
I can’t understand why GM would not offer this on the pick up line. FC is bringing out their hell cat engine in one of their pick ups. GM is always following in the performance department. Such a shame from their heydays of the 1960’s muscle cars!! I’m very disappointed!
So now you can get to the Dunkin Donuts drive through faster ! Big deal !
Like Dunkin,my truck keeps running PAST YOU!
Good idea, but they will have to change the transmission. And many other things.
Hope they build it. Gas guzzling American vehicle. The Hell with Biden and his EV fleet of vehicles.
