OnStar Offering Free Amazon Echo Dot With Three Month Trial

Current owners of General Motors vehicles have the opportunity to get a free Amazon Echo Dot when they sign up for a three-month OnStar services trial.

Through this new promotion, GM owners can sign up for a free three-month trial for both the Remote Access and OnStar Safety & Security and plans. Not only will they get all the benefits of these connected plans free of charge for three months, they will also receive a new complimentary Amazon Echo Dot speaker.

The Amazon Echo Dot is the perfect add-on for this promotion, as new GM vehicles can be paired with the Amazon Alexa AI assistant to enable voice-activated prompts and commands. Chevrolet owners, for example, can download the Chevrolet Skill for Alexa and use it to start their car, adjust the climate control and make other adjustments by simply talking to their Amazon Echo Dot. This Alexa skill will require the myChevrolet mobile app to work properly, which is available for Apple and Android smartphones and operates off the OnStar Remote Access plan.

While the Remote Access plan gives OnStar customers additional connectivity features for their vehicle, the OnStar Safety & Security plan is focused on driving safety. This is essentially the standard OnStar plan and includes well-known features like Automatic Crash Response, Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Crisis Assist and Turn-By-Turn Navigation.

The regular price for an OnStar Remote Access plan with the OnStar Safety & Security plan is $34.99 per month. As we noted above, customers who cash in on this promotion will receive a free three-month trial of these two plans before they will be required to pay to keep the service turned on.

Current GM owners can sign up for this promotion by pressing the blue OnStar button in their vehicle to speak to an advisor. They will have to relay the promotional code ‘ECHO’ to the advisor in order to receive the deal. They can also call 1-877-299-1379 for more information on the deal.

  1. I deliver all the new & CPO vehicles for my dealership and this is the first I’ve heard of this.
    Appreciate the info!

80% + of my guests take advantage of the 3mo trial by saving payment method on file already, so will be just an added benefit!

  2. I never saw any value from having an OnStar plan, and I can’t understand why anyone would want an Amazon listening device in their house.

    These go together beautifully.

    1. You can control what and when the Echo Dot will listen in your house. The Echo app controls most of it (including erase all recordings) but each and every Echo device has a microphone switch on it. I have three Dots and one Plus, and they all work perfectly.

As for OnStar, there is no service where I live so my 2009 Equinox has the hardware installed and unused.

    2. @Nate No value?
Their cheapest plan allows you to remotely lock, unlock, and start your vehicle in seconds from anywhere.
Also you can see live diagnostics for your vehicle as well as locate it.

They have plans for companies so you can monitor all your drivers and their vehicles in one location.
Parents can make sure their kid is safe and where they are supposed to be and set boundary alerts.

Lets also not forget that they have emergency crash response so god forbid you get in an accident and can get to your phone that was thrown out of the car, they will automatically reach out to you and if you don’t answer send help immediately.

They can also slow down and stop vehicles for police to catch a car thief..

But I guess you’re right, that’s all pretty much useless -_-

Also your coveted phone is already listening to you

    1. Alexa is actually available to download in your in-vehicle app store already for 2018+ newer GM vehicles with the newest infotainment system!
I believe the free Dot is supposed to be used in your house so it can all be tied together.
I’m not a huge fan of the voice stuff personally, but I do see its value.

    1. I’ve been waiting since last September so good luck. I call on star customer service each month & get put on hold for a while each time without ever getting the echo dot. I wish they would take care of this & quit giving me excuses. Why would I want to recommend their services to anyone if they can’t even follow through on a promise to me personally? This is getting very old. I can’t imagine how much time I’ve wasted dealing with this echo dot promotion since last fall.

      1. Oh I completely understand & agree very poor service 1 in my book. They tell me call back 24 hours to 5 days I stick to calling once a week. It’s sad they can’t even call Amazon to ship it.

  6. I was offered this same promotion and have yet to get the echo. It is now almost time for me to cancel my service and I have still not received it.
We have called 4 different times and they say we cannot find your order, then they reorder it and say they will send a email conformation but we never receive the confirmation, so we call back again and they say they cannot find they order again. So we reorder again, so on and so on.
I am very dissatisfied with this promotion that they offered. If you cannot fulfill the offer then tell the people and offer them something else.

    1. I called again the other day & explained the situation. They looked through all of the notes about me calling since last September. They got me the info. for the offer & I signed up for it. I should be getting it within the next few days. You will still be qualified to get the offer even though your free service has expired because you started the service during the promotion. The strange is that I used their jump starting service when my car died a few days after starting the promotion. Their service person was fast & friendly. Don’t give up, keep on them until you get your echo.
