We here at GM Authority have seen all sorts of lifted, customized Chevrolet trucks in our years on the internet, but we’re not sure if we’ve ever laid eyes on one cooler than the R-Tech Fabrications Ponderosa.
R-Tech Fabrications is an Indiana-based purveyor of custom General Motors pickups. The company takes vintage GM trucks and gives them a complete makeover, adding a custom crew cab, lengthened bed, custom bodywork and modern-day Cummins diesel engines, among other parts, melding vintage style with modern-day capability.
The company’s latest creation, the Ponderosa, is a lifted, crew-cab version of the 1964-1966 Chevrolet K30. It was built using the body from 1966 Chevrolet K30 and marrying it with a 1972 Chevrolet C30 dually chassis cab. In addition to its custom crew cab body and repurposed chassis cab frame, the Ponderosa also has a Dana 60 front axle and Dana 70 rear axle, Bilstein 5160 remote-reservoir shocks, Skyjacker leaf springs and American force wheels wrapped in 37-inch Nitto Mud Grappler tires.
As for power, diesel fans will be happy to hear the Ponderosa is packing a 5.9-liter Cummins diesel engine from a mid-1990s Ram, which is complete with an aftermarket turbo, Mahle pistons, a Competition Cams camshaft, Flowmaster four-inch exhaust, aftermarket injectors and a K&N intake, among more. The company claims this particular engine is good for 550 horsepower and a mind-bending 1,300 pound-feet of torque. Sending power to the massive 37-inch Nittos is a New Venture 4500 five-speed manual gearbox.
The vintage-theme interior is complete with modern-day amenities such as a Bluetooth compatible radio, a navigation system, new heating and A/C and a Kenwood audio system.
Every R-Tech Fabrications Ponderosa is complete built-to-order, so the customer can have theirs anyway they like. On its website, the company says there are “endless options for both drivetrain and interiors. Your truck – Your choice.”
A stylish, completely custom truck such as this doesn’t come cheap. R-Tech Fabrications charges $150,000 USD for a base Ponderosa, with the price going up as you add options on.

If I ever hit the jackpot I’m getting one of these to run around town with.
Not to rag on others’ preferences, but this would be so much better IMO at stock height with period-correct wheels and tires.
I agree, although a mild lift would still be cool with me.
