Mainline Production Of 2019 Silverado And 2019 Sierra Begins At Fort Wayne Plant

Mainline production of the all-new 2019 Silverado and 2019 Sierra has commenced at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana.

Photos posted by Automotive Sales Consultant Mike Davenport on his Facebook page taken outside the Fort Wayne plant show a few of the all-new pickup trucks – namely the 2019 Silverado High Country and 2019 Sierra AT4, thereby confirming whispers that mainline production of the all-new T1 platform trucks have commenced at the facility.

Production is currently taking place on a limited basis, and the vehicles that have been or are currently being produced going into GM’s Captured Test Fleet, one of the final parts of GM’s vehicle development process that places early production models in to the hands of GM employees, who will drive the vehicles and report back with any issues. The process is intended to perfect the series production process.

The news follows reports of the first real-world sightings of the all-new Silverado a few days ago.

Interestingly, both models are equipped with the new 6.2L V-8 engine, whose power output we still don’t know, as GM has been less than forthcoming with the details when announcing both vehicles.

The all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 and 2019 Sierra 1500 are set to go into full-scale series production in the fall, with customer deliveries taking place shortly after.

  1. I had been hesitant to like the Silverado (from photos) in other live photos where it was red. But here in black with the High Country grille it looks better than the white GMC. I was all for the GMC looking nicer before these new photos.
Though they say if you can make a vehicle look good it white it’s a good looking car. Meaning white it a hard colour to look great since it hides curves and shadows. Ferruccio Lamborghini or Pininfarini or one of the other greats said that about white. So the GMC doesn’t look bad here, it’s just white can be hard to pull off, especially for a freight train design.

  2. At first glance I thought why did they put an F150 in the picture? Nope that is a GMC, the headlights are very similar

    1. You’re right, Ford did immatate the C chaped headlights GM was using.

They even have stacked headlights too, just like Silverados for the past 30 years.

  3. Silverado looks awesome. It will be my choice, if the interior looks better in person than we’ve seen so far.

  4. The GMC looks like it was punished by the ugly stick. Silverado for the win.

  5. I like both truck equally

  6. Is it 100% certain the the current gen will be made alongside the next gen?

If so, will this be true with the HD trucks as well?

  7. Two great looking trucks right there that will be let down by a subpar interior both in design and materials. GM will probably have to redo these interiors a lot faster than usual. Ram put these trucks on blast in the interior department. Silverado will unfortunately fall to third place in sales. How the hell does GM take huge design risks on the exterior but goes full conservative on the interiors.

    1. GM’s interiors have relatively stayed the same for a number of years, its never affected sales. Granted RAM has a really nice interior but went conservative on the exterior. Won’t affect position in sales ranking.

      1. You are 100% correct on your assessment. The Ram went all in on the interior but went real conservative on the exterior. Chevrolet did the complete opposite.Ram said they did crazy amount of research and found buyers make decisions on interiors overall. Buyers are migrating to cars with the best overall interior for themselves for the money. All my friends and coworkers only really care about the interior. Customers perceive the interior quality to the overall vehicle quality. Most have no clue what HP their car has or sometimes even what kind of engine.
I believe Chevrolet has the worse interiors in the Industry. It is not design it is the hard plastics the Beancounters make them use. This whole thing that Chevy cannot step on Buick and or GMC on the truck side is simply ridiculous. It is starting to get embarrassing. I’m as big of a GM fan as anyone here but I will no longer make excuses for them charging the same money for their vehicles but utilizing sub-par materials. We are the reason they continue to get away with it. We will purchase nothing but GM cars and they know this. We push everyone we know to GM vehicles as well. Lets start holding them to a higher standard.

        1. So you have sat in the new trucks? Tell us how the feel and interior materials compare! Or are you just making ASSumptions of what you see in a pic? GM used a truck interior which is much preferred. Can already identify you are a car guy who wants to play truck…

GM interior > Ram and their over done luxury car interior. Give me a useful interior with big knobs and buttons that will stand up to some abuse. If you want luxury Germany is real good at that, head down to those dealerships.

Love watching people make a fool out of them selves with out ever actually being in or touching and using something, just ASSumptions…

          1. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuum. So are you stating Ram doesn’t offer a standard “Truck Interior” for you “Real Truck Guys” as opposed to a “Car Guy” interior?
Hate to break it to you but Ram offers two different interiors as well as a full on Luxury Interior. Also, not sure if “Real Truck Guys” are aware but others purchase Trucks in droves as well. You know, us “Car Guys”

  8. The GMC looks like a fugly pug. That’s supposed to be the highline brand? GMC sales will suffer….As bad as the all chrome Chevy looks, they’ll sell far better.

  9. Sierra AT4 in white please.

  10. Nice trucks. I’m leaning towards the GMC, as I’ve seen multiple design variations of the sierra outfitted both in chrome and in all monotone paint schemes – all look good, the Silverado seems to have completing design elements upfront with the grill…has always been the case. The lead designer probably shares a cubicle next to the lead Camaro designer..although I do like the Silverado Custom “blacked out” look with meatier tires!

  11. Am I the only one that thinks the SAT antenna is an eye sore? Why can’t it be centered or have a lower profile?

    Reply
    1. I despise the placement of the antenna! I have always thought it should be in the Center Rear of the roof and Ram has done that this year. Of course it probably saves 10 cents worth of wire per truck to place it such a short distance from the A-pillar the wire was routed up…SMH

  12. Of course there will always be those critics out there hating on the design of the new Silverado and Sierra just as they always have been doing, but it won’t stop either truck from pulling in another JD Power and Associates Award or even another Motor Trend and or Truck Trend Award just as they always have been doing and will continue to do within the next year. I’ll be purchasing my Sierra SLE or SLT in Dark Sky Metallic by May of 2019

  18. What is GM waiting for?? We still don’t have published fuel economy, horsepower, and torque rating figures for the 2019 GMC Sierra/Silverado. There is also no word on the V-6 engine yet. Why is GM so late here??

  19. These trucks officially do not go on sale until this fall, despite the fact that they are being built right now but, for GM Test Fleet representatives only at this time and in limited numbers for those individuals. We still have enough time to receive all the critical information about these trucks before they are released to the rest of the public, stay tunned!!

  20. that High Country is parked in front of a Silverado HD, and its bed looks taller than the HD hood, I know it could be the camera angle and depth perception causing that but if not that is gonna be one tall ass bed

  21. When will they start production of the Sierra crew cab with a standard bed?
