This is a battle of perceptions and marketing. We know the recently revealed Lamborghini Urus and Cadillac Escalade are miles apart mechanically and in their construction, but both have similar missions: draw the well-off to their court.
The Escalade has done this very well for quite some time, and we’ve heard rumors the Escalade could move even further upmarket in the near future. As for the Urus, we don’t have a price yet, but like the Escalade, Lamborghini has a very positive aura to it. The Escalade’s became a pop culture icon during the 2000s and a go-to SUV for some of the biggest athletes and musicians. The same can be said of Lamborghini and the multitude of Gallardo sports cars it sold in the same era—probably to some of the same customers.
That’s why we’re here to ask if Cadillac should be worried about the Urus. We imagine the brand’s SUV will absolutely outprice the Escalade, and it’s rumored to start at around $200,000. But when an Escalade flirts with $100,000, is anything more really a deal breaker?
Perhaps it’s a sign for Cadillac that there absolutely is room to move upmarket. The Urus promises luxury, performance, and off-road capability, and we know Cadillac is capable of just that.

Ha, ha, ha! A threat to a ladder frame, solid axle, pick-up truck based SUV with the lowest reliability in the industry. ROFLMAO
This should hit the late night comedy shows.
A vehicle that outsells the competition, makes boat loads of profit for GM and dealers, and has one of the highest brand retention rates in the industry.
Jealous much?
One of the 10 worst vehicles on the market to buy in terms of reliability.
Jealous. Hell no! Don’t want to spend all my free time in the service dept. drinking lousy coffee.
Q: What does Santa Claus have in common with a Reliable Italian Sports Car.
A: Neither one exists!
Lambo is an Italian brand but is owned by Audi. Electronics, chassis and powertrain is all Audi. Not saying it’s the gold standard of reliability but the glorified pick-up truck, which is the Escalade, should do much better.
Audi electronics are a joke. The brand is known for check engine lights always being on. And when driving at night its usually the only light inside the car that works.
Obviously you have never owned an Audi.
I have, and I would never buy another.
BTW- Audi sells mostly entry level models. (Small cars & Crossovers) the owners never move up to the larger vehicles.
Audi is nothing but a glorified Volkswagen which is where the electrical problems come from!
You are right. To compare a CUV to an SUV is one thing. To put the brands Cadillac and Lamborghini in the same sentence sounds almost like a bad joke. I’ll put it to you all this way; Cadillac wishes that it’s brand is seen at the same prestigious level as Lamborghini.
The difference between the two brands alone, regardless of the specs of the vehicles, doesn’t allow this comparison to take place. It’s why I keep harping about having a Corvette division that supersedes Cadillac is luxury and performance. That would be a more serious question, a Corvette CUV vs a Lamborghini CUV.
EVA-01,
Totally agree with you.
A CUV as well done as the C7 with the characteristics of what make it a Corvette would be a huge hit. I suspect GM has one in the works.
Both have similar missions: draw the well-off to their court. Marketing 101 for every goods and services company in the world, and maybe a few on mars. How does this nonsense make it past the chopping block? Let’s compare aircraft carriers to yachts while were at it.
Nah! Both are simply too different from one another, and are/will be approaching the market very differently. You can bet the Urus is gonna start well into the six-figure range, with driving performance well beyond the Escalade’s intent and capabilities! This is the Lamborghini of SUVs! This thing’ll run with the likes of the ATS and CTS V-models! The Escalade is a less complex, more plebeian luxury SUV. With a proper focus on utility and comfort!
Now if Cadillac is willing to utilize their stellar Alpha/Omega platform to deliver a true performance-based CUV then perhaps they’ll have something at least somewhat comparable to the Urus! But I recall from an article some time back on this site stating Cadillac will not be placing an emphasis on driving dynamics and handling with their upcoming CUV/SUV models, so an Alpha/Omega-based model is highly unlikely….
This is more threat to the Porsche Cayenne that the Cadillac.
Now it would be good to see a Cadillac that would be in the same sport SIV segment.
SIV segment? What does “SIV” stand for?
“U” key too close to the “I” key on the keyboard + big fingers?
He’s typing with his nose. Lol
Sport Interceptor Vehicle
Urus does not target like Escalade that kind of SUV. Just like Sportcar compare super sedan, like Camaro with Impala. Urus is a track monster. Escalade is a comfortable machine with strong off-road performance. Urus is actually more like first SRX with V8 engine
While anyone who can afford an Escalade could most likely afford a second vehicle, it’s often the owners primary vehicle and if they have a second vehicle often its a weekend only toy vehicle…The Urus IS the owner’s second/weekend only vehicle where the owner will most likely own another vehicle that they drive more often…
according to me i think the cadillac and urus are very different cars coz coming to the urus it is focusing on speed and good dynamics then the cadillac is more of comfort than speed . but with that all apart they all can do almost the same thing but differ in ways
i personally preffer urus coz it is fast and the sitting capacity is great for a suv and als comfortable suprising
