It’s a sign of spring; baseball season is here. And, in typical fashion, Chevrolet is preparing to welcome fans back to Detroit’s Comerica Park with new centerpieces fixed atop the Comerica fountain.
A 2018 Chevrolet Equinox and Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD are this year’s vehicles chosen to welcome fans into baseball season for 2017, which will retire the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and Chevrolet Camaro from last season.
“This year, we have chosen to display the all-new Equinox and the HD Silverado because they are among the most versatile, durable and capable vehicles in the Chevrolet lineup and we know that they are tough enough to withstand the unpredictable Michigan weather,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet Marketing.
The Chevrolets will be subjected to the intense scrutiny of the elements as they sit atop the fountain, but Chevrolet has done nothing special to either vehicle. Instead, they sit as a testament to build quality, able to outshine 152 degrees Fahrenheit heat, shake off temperatures of -40 degrees Fahrenheit and sit still during wind speeds up to 155 mph.
It’s Michigan, so, these weather extremes could all happen in one week, you know.
Chevrolet renewed its sponsorship of Major League Baseball last year and remains the official automotive sponsor of the Play Ball initiative.

The Equinox and Silverado are the two best selling GM vehciles. The Equinox is the second best selling domestic CUV, after the Ford Escape, but it is larger, has better economy, and last longer. Yet GM should add the two EVs , Volt and Bolt EV to that exhibit as the 21st century driving is more electric than ever and getting better economy than any other hybrid, gas, or Diesel vehicle.
