It’s a big day for the Opel brand. The first production, 2017 Opel Insignia Grand Sport rolled off the assembly line as the brand marked the occasion.
Opel CEO, Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, attended the event with the plant’s staff to reiterate the importance of the Insignia.
“We have been looking forward to today for a long time; our new flagship has finally arrived. This is an important day for Opel and Rüsselsheim,” he said, as the Insignia Grand Sport finished in Abalone White stood next to him.
Opel invested over €500 million for the production of the 2017 Insignia Grand Sport and its variants, which will also ship out as the 2018 Holden Commodore and 2018 Buick Regal.
“The new Opel flagship is a core element of our product offensive, which will reach a new peak with seven new models this year alone,” Neumann added.
Order books for the 2017 Opel Insignia Grand Sport opened last month and the first three production vehicles shipping off to customers will arrive in Germany, Poland and Denmark. Opel expects the all-new Insignia to reach dealership showrooms this summer.

Beautiful, and a key to the final elements of an Opel turnaround. GM quit right as all the hard work was paying off–much needed SUVs are on the way, Amp-e (and a potential Corsa- e/Mokka-e down the road).
Selling Opel for a stock buy back? Barra could at least build a gigafactory like Tesla.
Beautiful Insignia! It will serve PSA well. GM, to further sweeten the deal, will probably licence the underpinnings to PSA for a new DS. Fiat walked with Epsilon years ago so why not gift PSA Global Epsilon?
Barra and Ammerman need to go! I new support a FCA merger providing new management China with the deal.
