Clear more space, Vauxhall Astra, because another award needs to find its way to the trophy case. Auto Express has named the 2016 Vauxhall Astra its Compact Family Car of the Year for 2016.
The award not only recognized an excellent vehicle in many categories, but helped define how the new Astra has set new standards for what the segment is capable of, too. Judges praised the Astra for its technology and “real-world appeal.”
“The Astra has excelled once again,” said Rory Harvey, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. “It’s great to see how well-received the Astra has been so far and we are pleased that the Astra is being recognized for the hard work that has gone into making this model the best yet.”
Included in the Astra’s trophy case are European Car of the Year, a Family Car category win at the What Car? Awards, a Lower Medium category win at the Fleet News Awards and the Game-Changer award from Autocar.

Liking the Elite models in the range, Elite can now be had in Corsa, Mokka X, Astra, Cascada, Insignia & new Zafira. Wonder if there’d be a market for a Adam Elite.

Kinda think judging by how many Zafira GSi & VXR’s there at various meets are there could be a future VW bus type following for this vehicle, guess time will tell. Also I believe as Mercedes do there should be a performance model in each range so defiantly a VXR. Also I believe there should be a luxury model in each range too & that Vauxhall & Opel should patent the Elite name for this use.
Elite models could also come with a special Elite badge say a diamond shaped badge with Elite through it. Elite has heratage for Vauxhall & Opel est in 1994 as a top line stand alone Omega that replaced the Senator.
This should have been Cruze hatchback m There was no need for GM to deploy precious resources building yet another varient. Also, a winner like Astra would have done well in the US.
