Community Question: What Vehicles Would You Like To See On GM’s Omega Platform?

We’ll come out and say it: General Motors has a real gem on its hands with the Omega platform. The architecture is lightweight (thanks to advanced mixed materials), perfectly balanced from a weight distribution standpoint, and it’s rear-wheel drive with all-wheel drive capability. In many ways, Omega is an architecture that GM has needed for decades but never had, until now.

Currently, the Cadillac CT6 is the only vehicle to use Omega

Currently, Omega underpins only a single vehicle — the Cadillac CT6. And though there have been rumors of the platform serving as the basis of an upcoming Cadillac CT8 along with a full-size Cadillac crossover (the XT7 or XT8), those have yet to be confirmed or denied by Cadillac, let alone materialize as actual products.

All in all, we believe that Omega is so good, that it’s just too good to use on only a single model. So, what vehicles would you like to see based on the new architecture? Talk to us in the comments below.

  1. There will be more vehicles coming, mostly from Cadillac above the CT6 with the CUV variants. I believe the CTS successor could be build, don’t know for sure but there are more vehicles planned to be built and GM is not going to have just one car build on the platform forever.

Now, if it was another brand, I would like to see the Avenir to be put into production, although GM already had no plans to build it in the first place.

    1. With the upcoming death of the SS and slow sales of the current Impala building a new Impala on the Omega platform would make a whole lot of sense .

      1. Too bad anything based on Omega like a Caprice would be bigger and worse handling than the SS. It would not be a suitable replacement or even sibling for the SS. GM never likes to put too much advertising into their captive imports for the US. Which is a shame.

        1. The Omega platform is light years ahead of any competing platform from the competition. The Zeta platform is outdated and no longer efficient.

    1. It’s been proposed but they claim there’s no solid business case to build one .

      1. That’s absolutely terrible.

After CUVs and the subcompact, Cadillac needs 2 things: A mid-size 6-series/E Class coupe, and a full-size, grand slam S Class coupe fighter.

To heck with that. GM is too big, and makes too much money not to open the coffers and make Cadillac shine. I’ve read a few times that Mercedes doesn’t have a budget for the S-Class. If that’s true, GM needs to apply that thinking to Cadillac. It’s literally the final step toward making Cadillac the standard of the world.

  7. Well I think Cadillac will be the sole user of Omega for the next several years. We should see the proper flagship CT8 and/or 9, plus I could see at least one or two Cadillac CUVs on it as well. I also think Buick will make use of it as well with the replacement of the upcoming Lacrosse in say 6 to 7 years. There is no doubt GM will get its money’s worth but it will take time.

  13. wasn’t it reported back in April that Cadillac pulled the plug on the CT8? I can’t see GM investing all this money into the Omega platform for just one car or just Cadillac. Buick needs something above the Lacrosse, something along the lines of the Avenir, not to mention an electric model (Electra).

  14. Like to see a 2 door Impala SS with the omega platform. Us baby boomers would like to see the Impala return as a 2 door coupe option. The current Impala has a great look, just give us the option of a 2 door coupe.

  15. I would love to see Cadillac bring back the Coupe DeVille and the omega platform would be perfect. My first Cadillac was a brand new 1980 Coupe Deville and I loved it. If they still made Coupe DeVilles, I’d still be buying them.

  24. Like all of the others I would like to see the Avenir in production but for God sake make it with quality in miind. A car that lives for more than 3-4 years makes senses not for the consumer alone but also as a testament and pride for the company. I change cars on average every 3 years but would like to keep my older cars. Unfortunately GM quality doesn’t allow for that keeping my older cars or passing them to my children. Why does my Lexus and Toyotas live on when my Cadillacs and Buicks die after 4 years.

  25. It has been way too long for this platform to not have been used for anything other than the CT6. The time money and effort spent on this platform for a single vehicle is money and opportunity wasted.
