Ed Welburn is the sixth person to hold command of all General Motors design, and as such has done tremendous work to revamp the design of the automaker’s latest products. In doing so, Welburn has become the first to receive the Detroit Free Press Automotive Difference Maker Lifetime Achievement Award.
It’s not hard to imagine why Welburn was presented with this honor when you look at GM’s latest work. The Buick Avista was a shell-shock to what we thought Buick could offer, the new Cadillac ATS-V and CTS-V are arguably the most stunning modern Cadillacs to have ever been built, the Chevrolet C7 Corvette is the object of desire around the globe, and let’s not overlook Opel‘s sharp looking lineup including the redefined Astra.
Congrats to Welburn on an award well-deserved. He will later join five other Difference Makers that have yet to be announced at the Detroit Athletic Club in downtown Detroit on March 15.
