General Motors unveiled the Cadillac Sollei Concept in July, showing off a drop-top two-door variant of the Cadillac Celestiq sedan. Offered as “the ultimate design expression of a coach-built luxury electric convertible,” the Sollei is quite the looker, showing off the curvaceous lines of the halo-spec Celestiq, but pared down into a roofless slab of streamlined style. Now, it looks as though GM isn’t done working on the Cadillac Sollei.
In a recent video, we see what appears to be a full-scale slay model of the Sollei at the GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan. In the video, The Wall Street Journal takes a tour of the facility, with GM Design Chief Michael Simcoe providing some insight along the way. In the background, we see several Cadillac design projects, including what appears to be a refreshed Cadillac Lyriq – as well as the clay Sollei.
The clay model in question isn’t directly addressed and is only on screen briefly. However, it definitely appears to be the Sollei with the roof up. The proportions are on par, with a wide, low stance, short overhang, and low roofline, while the rear end is familiar as well. In the background, we see what appears to be a painted Sollei concept parked by the large windows.
It remains to be seen what GM will end up doing with the Cadillac Sollei and this clay model. It’s entirely possible these GM designers are working on creating a full-scale model of the roofless luxury car with the top up, or even a hardtop two-door coupe variant, as we GM Authority reimagined in August.
Indeed, Cadillac has been particularly fond of the two-door body layout throughout the 2024 calendar year, unveiling design studies like the Expressive Coupe concept, the Cadillac Sollei, and the Opulent Velocity concept in quick succession. As GM Authority covered previously, the Cadillac design studio is very busy at the moment, and in fact is the busiest design studio at GM currently.
Either way, check out the clay model for yourself in the following video. Look for it around the one-minute, 23-second mark, as well as the three-minute, 40-second mark:

Are they working on a production version of this concept? I understand Cadillac is working on future bespoke models including limited run models and makes me wonder if this is one of them?
I think it’s more likely that the video was shot a while ago. I have seen the clay “top up” Sollei before.
Come-on people…
This was all “staged” to create PR swirl and speculation.
Ah guys what about the covered car in back on the right. It is the right size for a sports car!
Looks like my C5 with the top down and cover on.
Perhaps Cadillac should concentrate on their dealer network, poor customer service, and warranty coverage.
They tried to sell me a key fob battery for just under $40.00. The car was 2.5 years old. What happened to the 4 year warranty? Oh, that doesn’t cover batteries.
I left and bought 2 key fob batteries from Walgreens for $14.00. And i figured out how to change them off YouTube.
