2016 Chevrolet Malibu Officially Priced In Canada

Canadians hoping to get their hands on the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will surely be pleased with its official starting price tag of $21,745 (plus $1,650 destination), which is $3,495 less than the base price of the outgoing model.

The new, E2XX-based Malibu is offered in five models–L, LS, LT, Hybrid and Premier– and the base L model comes with a healthy amount of standard kit like ten airbags, push-button start, stop/start tech, cruise control and GM’s 160 hp 1.5L turbo I4 LFV under the nose.

Step up to the LS, starting at $24,245, and you’ll find Chevrolet MyLink with a seven-inch touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and a rear view camera. Drop an extra thousand and you’ll step in the LT model with goodies like LED daytime running lamps and eight-way power front seats.

Dig even deeper, to the tune of $32,045, and you’ll get into the Premier model, which can be optioned with a 2.0L Turbo I4 Ecotec LTG engine with 250 hp and an eight-speed slushbox.

The new Malibu, like the new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze and 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, is far lighter than its predecessor (nearly 300 lbs) and that’s a difference you’re sure to notice in the bends and at the pump.

Pricing for the Malibu Hybrid pricing will be announced closer to the start of production at the GM Fairfax Assembly plant in spring 2016.

  1. Have to see this in operation , particularly in minus 20 degrees winter weather , to see if the 1.5L engine is a noisy and thrashy little thing . I suspect it will be but another question comes to mind ,,,, will 87 octane be enough to regularly power this wee powerplant ??

  2. Makes sense considering more people are likely to get a crossover unless the midsize car can be had at a reasonable price.
