Followup: Papa John’s 1972 Camaro Z/28 Found In Detroit Driveway

Earlier, we reported John Schnatter, founder of Papa John’s Pizza, had his prized 1972 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 stolen after the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise. We’re happy to report the Camaro has been recovered, as it was found abandoned on Detroit’s west side. The trailer, which transported the 1972 Camaro, was not at the scene, however.

According to USA Today, Ernest Webber, who arrived to mow the lawn of another lot on the same street, recognized the 1972 Camaro Z/28 and called 911. The car was found with its license plate missing, reading PZZA1, and holder bent.

No other noticeable damage was apparent, but an Altoids container was seen wedged behind the steering wheel, according to the report.

Schnatter initially sold his 1972 Camaro Z/28 to help his father’s financial situation in 1983. Years later, he located the car and purchased it back for $250,000.
