GMC Teams Up With Instagram For A Unique Viewing Experience

Instagram has become wildly successful as a platform for social media enthusiasts to gather around. And, in an industry like automotive, photos convey much more than a tweet ever can. It’s simply the way our brains are programmed: we like pictures.

GMC has recognized this and teamed up with Instagram to introduce new panoramic style photography within the app. This campaign coordinates with GMC’s “Precision” branding move, as the photos allow for a closer look at the detail found inside GMC vehicles.

The campaign will run for one month, and began on May 22, with GMC being the first automotive brand to utilize Instagram’s “PanoGram” feature, via the Instagram Carousel format. It allows users to swipe through photos in likeness to a full magazine spread, showcasing multiple photos and creating one cohesive image as users swipe. Pictured above is one example, showing a California wind farm viewed from within a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali.

“We chose Instagram because of its successful track record of creating communities of discerning photography enthusiasts who can rally around a brand,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president, GMC. “Highlighting the precision of our vehicles within the context of beautiful photography helps us connect with consumers who embrace precision in all aspects of their lives.”

GMC says it plans to expand on this idea and bring the concept to Facebook in the short term, as it continues to ride the success of its “Precision” campaign. GMC sales have rose 15% year-over-year, with its latest advertising campaign debuting this past March.
