Earlier this week, we presented a couple of curious Camaros that are neither SEMA nor Transformers show cars, nor the 2015 Camaro,. But today, it seems we’ve found something a little more… secretive.
Sent to us by a loyal reader, this photo shows a C7 Corvette of some sort that is covered in protective wrapping, closely guarded by security, and looks ready to fit in a carrier and sent to the 2014 New York International Auto Show, mirrors folded and all. It’s wide, like the 2015 Corvette Z06, but adorned with flashier wheels than what we’ve seen. And if we were gamblers, we’d take it to the bank that it’s a convertible.
All of these indicators point to this cloaked Corvette Convertible to be the latest variant of the C7 family, which is officially going to debut during next week’s NYIAS. Is it the C7 Grand Sport? Or perhaps the next 427 Convertible? But since there currently isn’t 427 cubic-inch motor in the Gen. V Small Block family, it could be named the Z06 Convertible.

I think it is the Convertible Z06.
I have no idea where people keep coming up with the Grand Sport or even a 427 when there is nothing yet.
There is a L88 engine coming at some point you may see that size again then.
If there is a Grand Sport it may be the light weight track car they are working on. It would replace the ZR1 as top dog. It would fit the pattern Chevy has taken going back to the original intent of the cars of the 60’s like the Z/28. That is where I expect the L88 first and later in the Z06 as an option or special edition. The original Grand Sport was a real light weight track car that was fast but the lack of support and the horrid nose aero kept it from living up to its fullest. Even Shelby was afraid of them. Too bad GM did not support them officially.
Same rims as the Z06 although not sure if Z07 wide or standard width, most likely because it is a Z06…
The Z07 will more than likely be similar to the last edition and use more carbon fiber and I do not expect polished wheels on it.
As for the negatives, what are you guys wanting the later Grand Sport that really just had a LT4 with only a few HP more a little larger tire and a couple stickers on the fender.
The original Grand Sport cars were was one of the most famous Corvettes and most valuable today. They do not have several companies making reproductions of them for nothing.
As for the ZR1 being gone do not get mad at me GM has stated it was gone. I suspect the 427 will be back in a LS model but look for the L88 name as has just been registered with the other new LT names.
Based on history with the Corvette and what GM is and has been doing or saying this is what looks to be coming.
The shape of the hood indicates that will have much displacement
May just go to be a display Corvette ………..
