General Motors is reported to soon see a return on its investment into Powermat Technologies, Ltd., as the wireless charging company said it plans to debut its charging surfaces in select General Motors vehicles by next year, according to a Bloomberg report. Our hunch is that GM will call the feature “Dockspot,” based on trademark filings.
Specifically, it’s not sure which GM vehicles will see the technology initially, but the company did say that it would feature the technology in the Chevrolet Volt back in 2012, which didn’t end up happening. In order for the inductive charging setup to work, smartphones must be capable of recharging via built-in technology, or use a case designed for the purpose.
