Accident Watch: Last Year’s Thanksgiving Corvette Street Race, Crash Leads To Felony Charges

Last year’s otherwise uneventful Thanksgiving holiday was disrupted by two things. The Detroit Lions’ Ndamukong Suh stomping on Green Bay linemen, and two men allegedly street racing in Corvettes in Texas and crashing into each other. Unfortunately for them, it was caught on video, which quickly found its way to the local Sheriff’s department.

And after nearly a year, 45-year-old Roy Bowden and 24-year-old Brian Hebert were indicted by a grand jury of third-degree felony racing on highway causing bodily injury just last week. They face a punishment of 2-10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines. Seems awfully harsh for a traffic light race, but because  Hebert was driving on a suspended license and Bowden complained about an arm injury, plus the amount of drivers/pedestrians in the video, no quarter was given. Still… we’ve heard of drunk driving sentences much, much lower.

Below is the video in case you haven’t seen it yet. There is some NSFW language, and obnoxious gum chewing thrown in as well.

  1. Wow, 10 years seems like quite a lot of time to take away from someone’s life. Not to mention ruining the rest of their life, career, family and personal belongings…

  2. I think the judge is a Republican. He’s pissed with these drivers of GM vehicles. He’s pissed that Obama saved GM and is even more pissed that Obama won a second term. So he’s punishing Obama vicariously through these clearly socialist commie bastards. Okay…that’s a stretch, but how else do you explain what is clearly excessive sentencing? At best, the most that should happen to these guys is suspended licences, community service (replanting trees and grass around the city), and a fine equal to the cleanup and emergency response costs. You give these clowns 10 years and it’s the TAXPAYERS that pay for their time spent.

  3. What a waste of two Corvettes!

  4. Did I miss something? did they hit a pedestrian to get such a sentence?

  5. So one of the drivers screwed them both by complaining about his arm. Now they are both going to serve time. I don’t condone street racing, but I think this is excessive. Some people get less for killing people.

  6. A fine or punishment should not only fit the crime but should act as a deterrent. If more sentences like this were handed out perhaps there would be fewer “accidents”. If these 2 have that type of money and time to waste on street racing, why don’t they help those who really need help by donating some money or their time to help others. If someone were killed or injured by this foolishness, there would be a huge outcry about where were the police to not stop this type of thing.
Throw them in jail where they belong!

  7. All of Texas is republican, but of hicks. Knowing the Texas penal code, I’m surprised these guys didn’t wind up on death row. (sarcasm of course).

I would never want to do anything illegal in that state.

  8. Lesson learned here? Don’t turn your active handling off, especially if you can’t control your vehicle.

  9. This does seem like a pretty steep sentence. With all the “smartphones” out there I am surprised there aren’t more tickets like this. Not so “smart” with this little race. I wonder how many tickets are handed out after videos like this?

  10. Did I miss something? The way it reads they’ve been indicted but not convicted and sentenced.

    1. Correct. These are the charges they face.

  11. …and they face a punishment of 2-10 years and a $10,000 fine, Obviously, they won’t get that stiff a fine/punishment. But, the law is on the books along with those possible consequences. Warning? Don’t break the law.

And if you think Texas is tough, take a look at Arizona or Georgia!

  12. brian hebert is one of my very good friends we lived together for a while and he isnt a bad person. roy caught second gear and lost it and hit him clearly in the video. brians car was cam full exhaust with a tune and you would be able to see if they were reving the motors or if he was giving it some hell. he has had many fast cars 06 gto megadeath cam, full exhaust, 3500 stall trans. 03 cobra whipple, cams, full exhaust. he knows how to drive and he didnt do anything wrong to get into this shit except drive with no license. ive been in that vette numerous time and he was NOT givin it hell. anyone that knows anything about cars would know a 400-450 hp car when its full throttle. i see brian all the time, hes not a punk kid hes a well rounded cnc machinest for a large corporation, has son, and has a family that gives a shit about him.

  15. Yea i know crude language and everyone else thinks they know about this situation. hes like a brother and its pisses me off to look at all this stuff about him. also i think i am half ass intelligent i work for american jereh oil fiels services international as a welder/ fabricator and assembly brian works for the same company. sorry if what i said was offensive to you but if it was someone close to you that was going through this situation cause of some jackass catchin second gear you would be mad too. anyone that knows anything about a 6.2 with full exhaust and a pretty big cam would know it would drag a ls1 6.0 pretty hard if they were racing. ive been finding every forum thats talking about this and adding the truth in it. once again sorry for foul language but thats how we were all raised and it aint gonna change anytime soon.
