Don’t call it a Z28, but Chevrolet is launching another hardcore variant of its beloved Camaro this year to slot above the Camaro SS, while borrowing several components that make the Camaro ZL1 so awe-inspiring. Called the Camaro 1LE, it brings to the world the 426 horsepower, 420 pound-foot LS3 V8 found in the SS, with the transmission and several suspension components and tires found in the ZL1 that will give it the ability to hold on up to 1G of cornering forces. And it will come in at $37,035, plus a $900 destination fee.
As a bonus, Chevrolet is pursuing SCCA approval of the 1LE package for Touring Class competition in anticipation of buyers entering the 1LE in amateur-racing events.
Will it be good enough to smite the visceral Ford Mustang Boss 302, which starts at $42,995? Stick around long enough and you just might find out.

Lack of IRS hurts the Mustang. Seems this is still the same heavy Camaro, more comparable with Mustang GT with track package than with the Boss. If the car sheds 300 pounds and gets at least bit lower and smaller, loses big blindspots, it will be a decent track car. The upcoming Z28 is more comparable to the Boss although still way too heavy.
