Hummer EV And Corvette C8 Begin Test Drives In China

General Motors’ new American vehicle import platform The Durant Guild in China has just started test drives of the GMC Hummer EV and Corvette C8 in the Asian country.

The Durant Guild hosted its first-ever test drive event called The Durant Drive in China’s Zhejiang province, where journalists and potential customers get their first look at the GMC Hummer EV pickup and Corvette C8 ahead of the rollout of its business strategy in that country. GM’s new business unit in the Chinese market is fine-tuning its entire strategy to launch the first vehicles starting next year.

In particular, The Durant Drive Zhejiang event includes two different test environments to demonstrate the individual capabilities of each vehicle. Guests can test the GMC Hummer EV pickup’s off-road skills on a local mountain trail, while they get a chance to drive the Corvette C8 Stingray on the Zhejiang International Circuit race track – where they can also go full throttle in the Hummer EV.

Due to the very limited availability of the vehicle, The Durant Guild’s first drive event only features one unit of the GMC Hummer EV pickup in Edition 1 trim, which comes standard in Interstellar White and unique Lunar Horizon interior with bronze details. Plus, it features a 1,000-horsepower tri-motor drivetrain and an extreme off-road package with multiple class-leading technologies.

Meanwhile, The Durant Drive Zhejiang has several units of the Corvette C8 Stingray Coupe in different colors, equipped with the Z51 performance package. As such, all are equipped with the mid-mounted 6.2L V8 LT2 naturally aspirated gasoline engine rated at 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, mated to the M1L eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The GMC Hummer EV pickup and Corvette C8 are part of the upcoming portfolio of vehicles that the multi-brand platform The Durant Guild will introduce in China, comprised exclusively of iconic GM models made in the United States. The unit will open a new line of high-end imported vehicles that will complement the wide range of models from major brands built locally by the SAIC-GM joint venture.

  5. WHAT IN THE HELL IS CHEVROLET AND GENERAL MOTORS DOING WITH THE EXPORT OF NEW CORVETTES TO CHINA WHEN THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A BACKLOG OF 55,000 NEW CORVETTE STINGRAYS AND Z06 MODELS SOLD TO AMERICANS AND CANADIANS, AND A FEW EUROPEANS WAITING FOR YEARS TO GET THEIR NEW 8TH GENERATION CORVETTE?

HAS GM FINALLY LOST THEIR CORPORATE MIND!

    1. Jeffrey, it sounds like you’d prefer GM to build them in China instead of having American-built products being sold there.

  6. I guess this means production GM is confident production volumes of both the Corvette and Hummer will be much higher in 2023. Batteries are the main constraint on the Hummer (and Lyric), so the ramp-up of the Lordstown battery plant must be on schedule, which I think would be enough for about 4,000 vehicles per month currently, ramping to 16,000 by August 2023.
