The iconic General Motors Renaissance Center is preparing for some major upgrades, and according to Detroit Business Daily, the plans are finalized.
The new space will be called the GM Experience, focusing on the past, present and future of the automaker. Some of the latest vehicle models will be present on large turntables with LED screens, while large exterior windows along the northeast side of the complex fronting Jefferson Avenue will also be installed so People Mover riders can see directly into the new space.
GM will also add an extra 8,000 square feet to the space that currently houses the People Mover station.
The construction is set to be completed sometime in 2018 or 2019 with a final LED screen to be erected on the exterior to overlook Jefferson Avenue.
Meanwhile, while those plans continue to develop, GM will open a branded store inside the RenCen to sell apparel, framed prints, small car models, and other merchandise that highlights its brands. The automaker states more GM stores could be opened in limited numbers if the model is deemed successful.
