General Motors Canada sales grew to 25,435 units in April 2014, an increase of 1.5 percent on a year-over-year basis. Retail sales were up 6 percent.
On an annual basis, sales of Chevrolet and Cadillac brands were up 5 and 18 percent, respectively, while sales of Buick and GMC were down 12 and 5 percent.
April 2014 sales highlights:
Sales of the Chevrolet Equinox, recently named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS, were up over 23 percent
Sales of the all-new Silverado were up 5 percent
Sales of the Buick Enclave were up 32 percent
Sales of the GMC Acadia were up over 38 percent
Sales of the all-new 2015 Yukon and Yukon XL combined were up almost 38 percent
Cadillac retail sales were up almost 17 percent, the 19th consecutive month of sales growth, driven by ATS (up 13 percent) and SRX (up over 52 percent)
“Canadian customers continue to recognize the value, performance and technology of Chevrolet’s new vehicle line-up, with total Chevrolet sales up more than 5 per cent for the month of April,” said John Roth, vice president, sales, service and marketing, GM Canada. “Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze were up over 19 per cent in the same month as The Diesel Driver named the Cruze 2.0L Clean Turbo diesel the Diesel Car of the Year.”
The Nox and Terrain are amazing and have become the Camry of the CUV segment.
As old as they are the sales just keep coming in. I just hope the new ones can build on this legacy.
As for the truck sales it was all about price and rebates. The public is just trained to expect rebates and lower prices. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the fall with the addition of the new smaller trucks. GM has to separate the prices structure of the two or the smaller ones will fail if priced similar.
Also will people accept the new higher prices on the Fords. They were willing to pay extra for the V6 Turbo but will they be willing to pay a bigger jump for the Aluminum.
So much has been made how Ford is trying to prove Aluminum is tough enough. I really do not see this as an issue the real issue is will the public be willing to pay much more for it over the other two trucks. It may have more impact on fleet sales where Fords sell so many trucks as they do today.
Over all I can see the recalls are having little impact. I can see that because they mostly involve vehicles long out of production and having not been built in years has help the public to separate them from the present GM offerings.
I kind of expected that but with the public you can never tell.
Sometimes old, tried & true is the best sales formula. When you look at the top 20–Camary, F Series, Cruze, Corolla, Nox, Accord, (last year) Old Impala.
Older autos gain the trust of consumers who aren’t generally interested in new platforms or the latest technology like Ford My Touch. This buying pattern (which often includes cash on the hood) has kept Chrysler alive, come to think of it.
Go Terrain, my favorite SUV!
