Officially Official: Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Confirmed

After months of rumors, unofficial confirmations and a dash of speculation, Chevrolet has gone on announced an early confirmation of the Cruze Diesel for North America. The car is expected to beat the gas-powered Cruze Eco in fuel economy — some even say as high as 50 MPG on the highway — but the official numbers are far from being disclosed.

Currently, the Holden Cruze in Australia cradles a 2.0-liter diesel good for 160 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque.

The bummer is that it will not launch until calender year 2013. Hopefully a Cruze Hatch and Coupe aren’t far off…

  1. Ok good news but most Americans don’t care, or don’t understand the advantages… We can all sit around and play make believe I guess. The truth of the matter is GM needs to strategically market the Cruze/diesel engine otherwise its just another engine option. Maybe a highend European packaged Cruze, with unique features and advantages over other Cruzes.

  4. Great! Another high fuel efficiency Cruze model. Now, can we please get a larger engine into the powertrain lineup to better compete with other cars in the segment? A high performance model would be great as well.

  5. Yeah more power that’s what we need. Like a LFX they can call it CRUZE MISSILE.

    1. Too bad we’ll never see the LFX in the Cruze. But I’m all for a boosted 2.0. Even a 1.6!

  6. Finally! Cruze ownership here I come! Wait…let me slow my roll…because if I don’t see discs at the rear of any of those diesels I will be marching on by…I seriously HATE drum brakes.
