The 2025 Cadillac Escalade marks a mid-cycle refresh that includes a variety of important updates and changes, including new styling, an overhauled interior, new tech items, and a streamlined powertrain lineup. Interestingly, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade is also available with a power-assist open / close door feature. Now, Cadillac is highlighting this feature in a brief new video.
To note, the power-assist open / close doors feature is tagged with RPO code APD and is part of the optional Touring Package (RPO code ST1). This package is priced at $3,950 and also includes the soft-close front and rear doors feature (RPO code AF7). The package is available for the Premium Luxury and Sport trims, and included as standard on Premium Luxury Platinum, Sport Platinum, and Escalade-V. The package is not offered for the base-level Luxury trim. Full functionality of the power-assist open / close doors feature isn’t available yet, but will be activated later on via an over-the-air update.

Here’s how the system works. Inside the door handle is a button to activate the motor assist. When a user opens the door, the motor makes the door feel lighter than it actually is. Once the user stops moving the door, the motor holds the door in place. This is particularly useful when parked on a hill, or if it’s windy, as it prevents the door from swinging freely.
The further the door is opened, the more resistance is felt from the motor. This resistance ensures the door stays steady, even on an incline or in a windy climate. To close the door, the user simply needs to give the door a gentle push, and the motor will assist in shutting it smoothly. You may also hear the motor working during opening and closing, which is normal.
Another helpful feature is the motor’s ability to gradually slow down the door as it opens wider, which prevents it from swinging open too quickly or slamming. The system automatically increases resistance the farther the door opens, ensuring safe and controlled movement.
The power-assist functionality works the same way for both the front and rear doors. The door can also hold securely in any position.
All in all, the motor reduces the effort needed for ingress and egress, all while adding a premium, high-tech feel. Check out the full feature video right here:

Yet more unneeded and unwanted tech. This one is PATHETIC.
This may be pathetic for you because you cannot afford it. GM will trickle down this feature to all its models as it had done with power steering, ABS, electric steering, electric power windows, power seats, and many more features that began in luxury models. Then everyone will not buy a new vehicle without it!
@Beachy – Many vehicles in this price range offer this feature. Much like the Celistiq that you bash at every chance given, do realize you are not the intended audience for this vehicle either…you bought an Encore GX.
I like the feature.
All Escalade customers will like the feature.
The problem will occur 2-3 years from now, when the motor malfunctions and you can’t open or close the friggin’ door.
And the dealership will charge you $1,500 to repair it.
Then we won’t like the feature so much then.
The feature can be turned on and off, so yes it would still open and close without the motor working.
Less tech probably would be a good thing for modern day vehicles. You’ll need to drop a thousand dollars to buy a new rear light assembly because of the “high tech” LED bulbs can not be replaced. Two grand a side when the retractable running boards stop working and so on
