Second-Generation Cadillac XT5 Reviewed In China: Video

The second-generation Cadillac XT5 got its big debut at Cadillac House in Shanghai, China this past August, showing off an all-new crossover complete with a new look, larger dimensions, a new cabin, and a long list of tech features. While the updates are nice, the second-gen Cadillac XT5 will remain exclusive to the Chinese market. Now, however, one reviewer is climbing behind the wheel to serve up a full review of what we’re missing.

In China, the XT5 is marketed as the “Little Escalade” largely thanks to a front-end design that mimics that of the full-size Cadillac Escalade SUV, complete with a prominent grille and air intake, plus vertical LED daytime running lights.

According to the reviewer, the second-gen Cadillac XT5 is priced between $37,000 and $47,000. The XT5 is built on GM’s C1-2 platform, the same architecture that underpins larger SUVs like the Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. The second-gen XT5 is also larger than its predecessor, with the wheelbase extending 0.2 inches, the overall length extending 2.95 inches, and the tracks widening 1.6 inches in front and 1.5 inches in the rear to 66.4 inches and 66.3 inches, respectively.

The new dimensions and styling lend a significantly different look to the crossover, while features like 21-inch wheels and six-piston brake calipers underlining the enhanced aesthetic even further.

Inside, the XT5 draws inspiration from Cadillac’s luxury EV, the Lyriq, particularly with the prominent 33-inch curved 9K display, which combines the instrument cluster and infotainment screen into a single, sweeping digital interface. Despite the emphasis on digital technology, the XT5 retains some of the physical buttons, while the cabin is lined with premium Nappa leather and aluminum trim, creating a luxurious ambiance complemented by a 15-speaker AKG sound system. Comfort features also include heated, ventilated, and massage functions for the front seats, while the rear offers amenities like a new headrest for the center seat and dual USB ports.

Providing the motivation is a mild-hybrid powertrain that combines the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine with a 48-volt hybrid system to deliver 233 horsepower. Output is routed through the GM nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system.
