Here Is The Cadillac Opulent Velocity Concept

Cadillac just unveiled its latest concept, the Cadillac Opulent Velocity, an all-electric hypercar embodying the brand’s vision for the future of luxury and performance. Following a teaser released in March, the Opulent Velocity concept introduces a striking design and novel technology concepts, all while giving a nod to the brand’s motorsport efforts.

At its core, the Cadillac Opulent Velocity offers a dual-mode driving experience, aptly named “Opulent” and “Velocity.” These modes cater to distinct user preferences, providing either the serenity of fully autonomous driving, or the thrilling control of high-performance manual driving.

The interior of the Cadillac Opulent Velocity concept.

In “Opulent” mode, the focus is on ultimate comfort and relaxation. This mode employs Level 4 autonomous driving technology, allowing the car to operate hands-free while passengers are immersed in a luxurious environment. The cabin is equipped with a full widescreen display, an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR HUD), and multi-sensory experiences like curated digital art and ambient lighting, creating an individualized atmosphere.

Switching to “Velocity” mode activates the Opulent Velocity’s high-performance attributes, inspired by Cadillac’s Blackwing engineering. This mode brings the car to life with the steering wheel and pedals emerging from their stowed positions, ready for manual control. Velocity mode also features a “Ghost Car” function on the HUD, allowing drivers to compete against virtual opponents or challenge their own best lap times on track. Drivers can also fine-tune the vehicle’s performance with active aero settings, suspension dampening, and similar adjustments.

In terms of design, the Opulent Velocity’s exterior design takes cues from Cadillac’s V-Series.R hybrid race cars, showing off a sleek, low-slung silhouette and dramatic butterfly doors. The design is enhanced further by vertical lighting elements, crystal fluted detailing, and a 3D illuminated grille, while the body panels are finished in light Gilded Pearl paint.

Inside, the Opulent Velocity marries cutting-edge technology with high-end materials, plus 3D-printed components. The 2+2 seating layout is complemented by a fully digital cockpit and a race-inspired Y-shaped steering wheel.

As GM moves towards full electrification across its light-duty vehicle fleet by 2035, the message communicated by the Cadillac Opulent Velocity concept seems crystal clear – batteries and electric motors provide fertile ground for the future of both luxury and performance.

  1. Definitely more of an actual concept than the Sollei, but based on the size, I think this is probably riding on the same basic platform as the Celestiq / Sollei likely hinting that this could eventually be a production model (albeit without the crazy concept bits).

I do like the evolution of the brand design.

  2. Magnificent! Anyway back to reality, it wont make production.

  3. In this kind of segment you are going to be buying a car that is more concept than anything. Low volume and high prices let them do things that are just a bit on the edge.

The key is just do not rebody a Corvette again.

I wish they would offer this with the CT5V drivetrain but with a ZRI turbo up front.

  4. just build this 2 plus 2 coupe. Stop making only concepts.

  5. Sorry, I just can’t get excited about a blinged out golf cart.

  6. What do you guys think is the purpose of this concept, practically speaking? Do you think this is a design exercise for their upcoming sedans? I feel like that’s a common strategy for GM design.

    1. A design concept but possibly a preview of an upcoming model as well. Cadillac needs to go upmarket to survive.
A Motor Authority article talking about this vehicle theorizes that because Chinese mass-market luxury EVs are crowding out foreign luxury brands, it’s forcing those foreign brands even further up market where brands like BYD, Nio, and Zeekr currently aren’t putting their resources.

      1. I totally get that. But, consumers aren’t used to Cadillac being in that space. And I can imagine that this would create a void in GM’s lineup. Does GM intend on moving Buick more upmarket to replace Cadillac’S current space??? I think I remember reading one time that decades ago, Buick was the doctors brand…

    2. Europe.
      Not for the American market.
It’s not where Cadillac sees its growth / future.

Regardless of how many you, your father (…or even Elvis) bought in the past.

  8. I wish Cadillac would build the Ciel. A roomy, luxurious, futuristic convertible. The sabbatical on convertibles should be over.

    1. Make it a 4 door convertible. Take advantage of the stiff platform.

  9. Wish they would build the Cadillac’s that are available NOW! We’ve have a 2025 CT5-V ordered through the local dealer (Uebelhor Cadillac, Vincennes, IN) since June 3, 2024 and not even a production date yet.

  10. Why doesn’t Cadillac finish executing what they have instead of teasing us with concepts that will never become reality? I am sitting in a ‘24 Lyric that doesn’t have a HUD and still doesn’t have the promised software for V2H power.

    1. Because the designers who draw up concepts are not the same people and the coders working on the software.

  14. GM, or any car maker needs to stop all the wet dreams thinking and hire someone like Lido Iacocca.

Ford he turned the economy Comet into the 1964 1/2 Mustang. He also asked suspension designers for Ford F series trucks if the bars could be shaped like I-beams and came up with FORD twin I-BEAM suspension. Which wasn’t a real improvement but boy, did it sell trucks!

For Chrysler he made a few small tweaks to unibody construction and came out with the minivan.

From Stellantis we now get really overpriced low quality junk. Their dealers are screaming since the cars are getting impossible to sell what with the sticker shock over the last 3 years.

Ford comes out with basically useless patents instead of fixing leaky Ecoboost engines. The only real world patent they came out with squeals to the cops about neighboring drivers speeding or the driver himself.

    1. yeah. Lee Iacocca chose right the Mustang model, but he is past like design of cars and ships are past too.

Really understand why guys more and more are fascinated to generate vehicle in AI, because they are frustrated since long what industry produces and the models from them coming are daily more and more interesting — lacks to industry which can not accompain … those guys are normal guys like me bakers, truck drivers etc. normal people most never studies design, engineering but know what industry does from a far while is junk… many errors but people pay expensive for those errors,,,, yeah another lee wont have

    2. I don’t know why I said Mercury Comet. The Mustang was a fancy FORD Falcon as can be seen that the base power train (6 cylinder , and 3 speed manual) were identical.

  15. Been waiting for my wife’s “In Transit” 2024 XT4 to make it from the KC assembly plant to the Memphis dealer for approximately 2 months. No wonder sales are down. BTW, having to drive two hours to Memphis or more to other Cadillac dealers, as long time local dealer in Tupelo, MS, dropped Cadillac after decades rather than spending hundreds of thousands to be able to sell & service EV.

  17. This is a gorgeous concept. Cadillac should consider building this in production spec in very low volume yearly or have a limited production capped.

  18. As the owner of 3 V cars, one a Blackwing, I feel the need to comment on this in hopes that GM will listen. I’m going to comment knowing this a concept and that some styling components are likely to be future production elements.

Thanks for bringing a coupe out, or at least coupe like, now please build one!

I like the light elements on this car. Though some would clearly need to be modified for production, overall A+ I especially like the lighting on the top of the fenders that suggests the vertical forward light poking through the top of the fender. Tail lights with the appearance of depth are great too.

I like the “dog house” size and styling with one exception. Those “growths” or “ridges” on the hood are terrible. They instantly remind me of an Infiniti Q60 (I owned a G35, G37 and Q60). I think they are a good idea but need to be repositioned more outboard so they organically flow thought the design and line up more with the front lighting elements.

I’d urge some caution with the oval shape made at the leading edge of the front fender, looks a bit Buick and GM has enough problems with brand overlap.

Moving reward, especially in profile, I think it’s smooth and flowing, but that’s all I can say that’s good about it. Looks like two different cars of two different sizes, the front and rear simply aren’t in proportion to each other. I know it’s a concept car, but I don’t appreciate how the side glass fades to body color…..please show us a more traditional greenhouse and improve the proportions in any production version.

The tail is too long. Again, I know it’s a concept, but the proportions are off for me.

If it’s electric, can corner like a Blackwing, and charge in 10 minutes, I’d be fine with EV. If not, please give it the actual Blackwing motor (I’m sure you still have the tooling) and probably make it a PHEV and AWD (you’ve got the tooling for the Omega platform too).

Any price around $100k or less and I’m a buyer! Here’s to wishing.
