Mercedes-Benz is reportedly cooking up a new all-electric crossover variant of the all-electric CLA four-door coupe. If true, the new all-electric crossover will likely replace the Mercedes EQB or possibly slot in underneath the EQB with regard to Merc’s all-electric lineup. The EQB is currently Mercedes’ closest competitor when it comes to rivaling the Cadillac Optiq, with both models offering similar starting prices. That said, the least-expensive dual-motor EQB starts at more than $60,000 and offers just 207 miles of range, whereas the Cadillac Optiq is standard with dual motors and offers roughly 300 miles of range, starting at $54,000.
According to a report from Automotive News, the new all-electric Mercedes crossover is expected to hit the U.S. market in the first half of the 2026 calendar year, following hot on the heels of the all-electric CLA four-door coupe, the latter of which is expected to arrive stateside late in 2025. The new all-electric crossover is reportedly codenamed X174, with production expected to kick off in October of 2025 at Mercedes’ facility in Rastatt, Germany.
Under the body panels, the Cadillac Optiq rival will ride on the German automaker’s new “electric first” modular architecture, which is also set to underpin a number of compact and midsize electric and gasoline-powered vehicles, as well as four entry-level EV models, including a coupe, a wagon, and a pair of crossovers.
Mercedes currently offers a robust portfolio of vehicles. However, pricing is definitely on the higher end of the market. According to the Automotive News report, the German brand’s average transaction price (ATP) for the second quarter of the 2024 calendar year was $76,195, 30 percent higher than Mercedes’ ATP recorded for Q2 of 2019. That makes for the largest increase of any high-volume luxury seller, per Edmunds data.
Looking ahead, the upcoming all-electric CLA coupe will be based on the four-door Concept CLA Class unveiled last year. Based on European testing, it delivered over 466 miles of range per charge.

Is it a rival according to the size or the price? If it by size, it will be much more expensive. If it by price, it will be smaller. M-B EVs will cost more to buy and maintain. They are not worth the cost. Just buy the Cadillac!
