Chevrolet is once again showing off the Chevy Traverse Z71, this time highlighting the crossover’s picnicking capabilities in the following brief video.
The video is just 16 seconds long and shows the vehicle owner prepping their crossover to take their significant other on a date by the local lake.
“Summer King Moment – Date Night at the Lake,” the overlaid text reads.
As the video gets under way, we see the Chevy Traverse Z71 parked on the sand near the lake, with a woman walking around towards the rear of the vehicle. We then see inside the trunk, where there’s a basketball, a pair of shoes, a roll of paper towels, and a few other odds and ends. After clearing out the trunk, plus some other random bits and pieces from the rear seats, the Chevy Traverse Z71 is then loaded up with a picnic basket, a blanket, and some flowers for the date.
The video then highlights the 17.7-inch touchscreen on the dash, which provides the navigation to the spot. Later, see the couple on the beach, and it looks like the picnic is a hit.
“Going the extra mile means taking date night to another level with the new 2024 #ChevyTraverse Z71,” the video description reads. Check out the full clip right here:
GM previously published a short Summer King Moment video highlighting the Chevy Traverse Z71 for its ability to take vehicle owners on an off-road adventure, hauling a mountain bike to the trailhead. Notably, GM is aiming to attract more male buyers with the new Traverse, as GM Authority covered previously.
As a reminder, the third-generation Chevy Traverse is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine, rated at 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. The GM C1 platform provides the underpinning, while production takes place at the GM Lansing Delta Township plant.

Be sure to get out of the car for a picnic on a hot day if, you have the Evotex interior. The Evotex will seriously burn your rear end. Leather breathes, Evotex doesn’t. A child or adult with shorts on could easily get into a painful situation.
Sounds like you’ve been bit.
Leather barely breathes, the synthetic leather like evotex and softex breathes even better, so that statement is just flat out false. The burning is actually less than leather, it is designed to not get as hot or cold (though it still does worse than cloth). Synthetic over leather; it is more durable, easier to clean, less maintenance, superior UV protection, feels better and is softer in all but the higher end expensive vehicles.
Go sit on Evotex seats that have been in the sun for 30 minutes. You can’t sit on them. They’re too hot.
Simple solution opt for the cloth seats.
before we consider picnic, i hope they fix the vehicle’s *** reliability and durability *** first, and maybe offer V6 as an option. Especially for a Z71 and RS
So you want them to offer a lower powered option that is worse on gas? Turbo four > NA six.
Is it 1-2 mpg gain with the 4-cylinder shift? Is it worth less reliability and durability. Turbos are not the most reliable, per others first-hand experience,
Do you work for, or affiliated with the car manufacturer, or engineering department by chance?
[ Also, did you get a chance to read the many already-reported problems with the 2024 Traverses on Facebook and other forums? ]
Search ** Chevy Traverse Problems ** group on Facebook. Then, search 2024 within the search bar of that group. Read the many problems consumers are already facing. Reliability / Durability seems it will be a significant concern for many.
After you read the consumer reports, I want to know your perspective on Chevy Traverses overall reliability. (The Tahoe’s seem to have been more reliable historically. I’m not sure why they don’t replicate what works in the Traverse, just smaller)
Traverse = most reliable vehicle in its class…… with 1 caveat….. the first gen V6 was very sensitive to oil. When the oil got too thin, it burned through it really quickly. Like a quart per gas tank quickly when the oil is past due for a change. I’ve seen this in Toyota 4’s, Chrysler V6’s as well, but this is the worst GM engine for this type of oil consumption. That led to timing chain failure, not a matter of if but when once you’ve ran dry a couple times. Latter 3.6’s have an extra quart of oil, a low oil sensor, and better oil cooling which fixed the issue. 2012+ traverses have no oil problems.
This is a false statement. This isn’t the 80’s. Just like anything else, manufactures have figured out how to build turbos reliably.
Both of my cars are turbo charged. One a straight 6, the other a 4cyl. The turbo has not been an issue and both cars are high mileage.
I need to see a true head to head comparison. I’ve heard the newer “more powerful” turbo feels slower, possibly due to boost lag vs the V6, which is very responsive and has peak torque at 2600 rpm, and a very flat curve up to 5000rpm. I’d like to see a head to head MPG comparison as well as the EPA also punishes 4X4 trucks more than what is seen in real world driving as well.
Personally, I would have taken the 4.3V6, gave it DFM, corvette cam, and steel pistons. Would have been best of both worlds.
My how the SUV has fallen… 10 years ago SUV ads featured the truck pulling a boat out of the water, towing a camper up a mountainside or climbing through mud and trees in a forest. Now, they demonstrate picnicking abilities. My last picnic was about 35 years ago. A bucket of KFC, bottle of cheap wine and a beach towel, all housed in the trunk of my Mustang GT convertible. And it did feature a mountain backdrop, Mt Mitchell in NC off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Maybe the neutered SUV will eventually give way to… the Station Wagon?
Is it possible to have an amazing adventure in a Traverse Z71 with that stupid and pathetic four cylinder engine?! I seriously doubt it!! Please get real about how disgusting and disgraceful to even think about a four cylinder engine in a Z71. What a joke!!!
