With creamy good looks and no shortage of power, this 1985 Chevy C10, dubbed “Red Velvet,” is one helluva show piece, recently taking the honor of finalist in the Goodguys 2024 Dakota Digital Truck of the Year competition.
The build was executed by Fat Fender Garage (FFG) in Arizona, and showcases high-end custom work and a host of clever details. To sweeten the deal, FFG added a supercharged LS3 under the hood, complementing the build with plenty of power, to boot.
Per Goodguys, owner Paul Treadwell found this 1985 Chevy C10 in surprisingly good condition, snagging the low-mileage survivor in Alabama. Understandably, the decision to modify it wasn’t taken lightly. Nevertheless, Treadwell decided to move forward with the project. After the first builder decided to quit, Treadwell turned to FFG, and now, this thing is a head-turner no matter where it’s parked.
At the heart of this custom Chevy C10 lies a supercharged LS3 V8 engine, delivering an impressive 550 horsepower and 545 pound-feet of torque. Specs include a Magnuson Heartbeat Supercharger complemented by a Wegner Offset Front Drive Kit and dual Aeromotive Stealth Pumps, ensuring optimal performance. Engine output is managed by the 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission, transferring power seamlessly to the Ford nine-inch rear end.
Underneath the gorgeous body panels, the Red Velvet Chevy C10 rides on a GSI Air Ride frame, while Wilwood drilled and slotted rotors squeezed by six-piston calipers offer superior stopping power.
The exterior of the Red Velvet C10 is a visual delight, covered in BASF Metallic Red Velvet paint that gleams under the sun. This classic truck sits on Drift Schott wheels, with 20-inch wheels at the front and 22-inch wheels at the rear, enhancing its aggressive stance. Modern touches such as dual side cameras and a backup camera integrate seamlessly into the vintage design, providing both style and functionality.
Inside, the Red Velvet C10 continues to impress with a luxurious Red Strike interior and Red Daytona carpet. The dashboard is fitted with Dakota Digital gauges, while a Restomod Air system keeps the cabin comfortable. The truck also features a Flaming River tilt column and a Sparc billet steering wheel, adding to the custom feel. An Alpine Halo9 head and dual 10-inch Focal subwoofers ensure a premium audio experience.
Although Red Velvet was a runner-up at the Goodguys 2024 Dakota Digital Truck of the Year competition, we would not be surprised to see this thing take top honors in other shows very soon.
