A brand-new Chevy Camaro was totaled in Michigan this week after it was stolen off a GM car lot. The Camaro was awaiting shipment before it was allegedly stolen early Thursday morning. One man is now in custody, while another two suspects remain at large.
According to a recent report from NBC-affiliated WILX News 10, Michigan State Police responded to the CN Railroad Auto Distribution Center off Davis Highway at 4:45 a.m. local time in response to several unidentified suspects cutting a fence to gain entry to the property. Upon arrival, police observed one of those suspects, a 22-year-old male from Detroit, allegedly drive off in a white Chevy Camaro. The suspect fled, but collided with a large dumpster after attempting a U-turn. The Camaro was totaled, and the suspect attempted to escape on foot, but was later located and arrested. The suspect was taken to a hospital for injuries and is slated to arrive at the Eaton County Jail.
Police state that two other suspects attempted to steal two other Chevy Camaros, but abandoned the vehicles and fled on foot once police arrived. Both suspects managed to escape. Officials note that an investigation into a similar incident that occurred late in February is currently ongoing, during which eight Cadillacs were stolen from the GM Lansing Delta Township plant.
The CN Railroad Auto Distribution is used to store newly produced GM vehicles prior to shipment via train. The last sixth-generation Chevy Camaro produced rolled off the line at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan late last year.
As GM Authority has covered previously, Chevy Camaro thefts are on the rise, in particular in the city of Los Angeles, where Camaro theft has surged more than 1,000 percent over the course of the last few months. Some thieves are using cloned ignition keys to gain control of the vehicles before driving away.

I hope it wasn’t a sold unit. GM failed to fill enough 2024 orders as it is. Big mistake dropping Camaro again. Meanwhile Mustang marches on and a new Charger on the way, ICE or EV on same chassis.
Davy…you are so right I keep writing in saying what are you guys doing stopping Camaros and it just makes more Mustang sales plus they stopped in December way to early to stop …PS SHOULD HAVE NEVER STOP AT ALL . I have a 2010 and it’s a great car
This is the second time they abandoned the Camaro, when will GM ever learn? As for them stealing so many Camaro’s,they need to make a system that only the owner can start and drive the car something like the finger print on cell phones. The thieves now can clone the keys and just drive away.Very disappointing in the car companies for not having better security for their vehicles!!
How do you clone an ignition key ?
You buy a key programmer on Amazon that plugs into your ODB II port. It is that easy. GM needs to provide a software update so that this can’t be done.
Actually it’s the key fob that’s cloned. Push to start may more convenient than an ignition key, but it doesn’t seen to be as secure. At least not on GM cars.
Correct. I should have said fob in my reply.
Yes!!!
What is GM doing? They have a superb 6th gen. SS
They haven’t bumped horsepower in the fabulous LT1 in 10 years. It debuted in the 2014 C7 Stingray.
I sure hope they come out with an even better 7th gen.
I’ll buy one.
I have a 2019 SS. Love it!! Its been nails!!!

Railroad? Good. Post a few old-school bulls around the premises.
Been 4 months since Camaro production line shut down, & still have them sitting on a lot waiting to be shipped!!
Was at the dealer in Big Rapids a 3 weeks ago .
( yes 3 weeks ago ) Salesman insisted he could order a new Camaro . Had 2 coming in supposedly . I said okay I’ll buy right now . Sat down tried to run the order . Amazing in didn’t work . Funny how a Salesman didn’t even know the factory shut down. And still thinks the other 2 cars ordered 3+ months ago , are still coming, jeez .
